Fascinating book, but you must learn to read the language and rhythm of the writing

Read aloud. Totally different experience.

It’s one of those books you enjoy more and more each time you read it. The movie is also. Definitely watch the movie once you’ve finished with the book.

I never read the book, but it was the only movie I wanted to walk out of, but I was with others who wouldn’t leave. Very disturbing for me.

Interesting as it was the only movie I ever walked out of.

I;m with you Corine – I did walk out of it – too cruel from what I recall.

The book is disturbing and violent as well, but has a completely different ending than the movie. The movie ending changes the message of the book (in my opinion).

Agree. Never read the book and it remains the only movie I ever walked out of. Very disturbing as I remember it.

One of my favourite movies.

Haven’t read the book, but I hated the movie 45 years ago. I wonder how the movie and book would affect me now? Times have changed, different perspective maybe.

I was so appalled by the premise that I threw it away when I finished it. The only other book I did that to was The Stepford Wives.

Loved the book and the slang becomes addicting once you catch on to it

I read it more than 40 years ago, and I have often said I see us moving toward that society!

I read it when I was only 13 and haven’t re-read it since. I remember thinking it was good.

If you can handle it, a compare/contrast with the film is worthwhile. Especially the ending.

FUN!!! but without a glossery, it may be rough going for the 1st few chapters. doe your copy have all original 21 chapters? American publishers left out the 21st chapter when printed in the U. S.

It took a week or more to read the first chapters but after I caught on to the language it was a great read. Stick with it.

Definitely took a minute to understand the language but I liked it a lot. Creepy to be sure.

If you find an older edition of the book it will NOT have the infamous 21st chapter, but it will have a Nasdat glossary. Worth picking up both!
