Option C: Read 80-90% of the book, then watch the film, then read the ending. I did that with The Help and it was fun and different.

I read the book first then watched the film – my daughter did it the other way round – the book explains way more than the film – so book first ?

Book first, apart from a few exceptions films hardly live up to expectations!

I watched the film then read the book, and (in this rare case), wouldn’t have had it any other way. The film, obviously, delivers the story in a shorter time frame, making the shocking bits like a rapid fire, emotional punch. Once I had the story line under my belt, the book allowed me to plunge a little deeper into the psychology of it all, and appreciate the writing itself that much more (I wasn’t just looking for the next big reveal, but was able to really think about character development, narrative voice, etc.).

Note: this is one of the few (possibly the only) film/book combos in which I would recommend the film first.

Do the book first. The film is good but the book is so much darker and more complex plus the writing is just amazing.

I always like watching the movie first since I know the book is always better. I choose not compare between the two and would rather be lost in blissful movieland ignorance for two some hours. 🙂

book definitely if books are more your thing – the film is faithful to story, you need the twists & suspense to do justice to the reading experience
