I believe the books and show will be separate storylines though. So even though the show is past the current books the two remaining in the series won’t follow what’s happening in the show. At least I think I remember reading that somewhere. Now I’ll have to find it.

@Kyle yes! This is what I always remember to be true as well. It was the only way Martin would agree to let them continue on passed him.

Deidra

I have never heard this. Infact I have heard Nartin is unlikely to finish the books.

I don’t believe that!!!! Sources?

Google it? Obviously it would be different. Different characters will killed in book versus show.

Here is literally the first article that comes up when I typed it into google.

Also, there are chapters of Winds of Winter released that already do not follow the show storyline, if you care to check them out.

I was asking @Deidra for her source. I do not believe that he’s not going to finish the books. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

James

Planning on finishing, I’m quite certain that he is. Going to finish? That’s a whole different question, and he is not a young man…

@James. Oh I agree I think he will finish and its not a different question Deidra sated she heard he wasn’t going to finish. I would like her source. And since one was never posted i conclude it is inaccurate.

“I do intend to finish A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, of course,” he wrote, “but doubtless Peake, Dickens, Fitzgerald, and Tolkien would have said the same.”

Yes! Kyle that’s my theory as well. Why would GRRM wreck his chances of losing his fandom and tons of money by just letting HBO end it all? He will go a different direction and only release WoW and ADoS once it’s all done.

The wait for the next book is horrible, especially with the fear that Martin will never actually finish them!

I’m glad you liked the show though, I couldn’t get far enough past all the discrepancies to actually enjoy it ?

I cheated. I flipped through the first 5 seasons and focused on 6 and 7. All things explained I guess. But still not the same as his writings

That’s a good way to do it, can’t be bad if there’s nothing to compare them to! I’ll have to try that I think

Troy

Last I heard was that the endings, who gets the Iron Throne, would be the same but obviously how it gets there is different.

Personall, I think he’s waiting for the show to end and see fab reaction and adjust the story accordingly.

There’s only 6 episodes left and lots of ground to cover

I love the show, but the books bored me ?

@Kerlys I couldn’t get into them either. ?‍♀️

Honestly, I’m not interested in finishing the books. I’ve read all the books to date, but had trouble watching the beginning of the show when they truly followed the same plot. I feel like a lot of what makes asoiaf enjoyable is the “shock value” of so many of the events that once you know what happens, it’s no longer interesting. I have zero desire to reread the books and skipped any episodes that were too true to the books… ?

And book 4 made me hate the books slightly…

Sadie

I love both! Though certain aspects of the book irritated me because of how they differ from the books. But both are still equally good in own ways

i haven’t watched any of it yet. I was wanting to wait and read the books first. I must admit I’m getting tired of waiting now.

The TV show diverges from the books later on. I’m not expecting them to be the same in the last season/book.
