Me either. I’ve actually come to loathe Patterson since he barely writes anything of his own. He just slaps his name on it and he is constantly trying to capitalize on what’s selling…like wizards.
Yeah he does keep with the trends. He does a lot of donating to bookstores and libraries, does a lot to help promote reading in children, uses the coauthoring system to help new authors get a foothold and learn some of the formula/methods that have made him successful. So i like him, even if he isn’t my go to read by any stretch
Oh god that was a tear jerker for sure!!! But if you read his notes on his ‘romance’ they are usually based on real life experiences.. including that one. Which males it more heartbreaking
I like to read the acknowledgements and notes in every book. First Love was supposed to be on some real life experience too. And that was emotionally heartbreaking too. But it’s what makes him great.
Yes! Do so. And for some reason, I don’t know about you, his romance novels really are a lot like reading a Nicholas Sparks novel. And usually I don’t do romance. Just those two
I am the exact same, and agree with you! I love how easy both of their books are to sit and binge on. I’m not a big romance reader either, but I love Nicholas Sparks. I didn’t realize JP had many romances. Can you recommend any others?
There’s Sam’s Letters to Jennifer, Sundays at Tiffanys, Two from the Heart, The Christmas Wedding to name a few. He also has romance bookshots too. However the main ones I have read are First Love, Sam’s Letters to Jennifer, and Suzanne’s Diary to Nicholas. But Sundays at Tiffanys is on my to get soon list. But he has a plenty romance novels. Like I always tell people he writes something for just about anyone. He even has children books in trying to collect before I have kids, for them to read. Nothing like planning ahead.
I’m in the minority it seems, but I no longer consider Patterson an author of merit, but a businessman of opportunity. I don’t read him, nor buy his books. Last week a student came to me to show me her book based on the wimpy kid series with a pink cover with ha ha ha embossed all over it. I prefer stories people NEED to write rather than stories written to make a buck off of someone else’s ideas. The two authors have discussed this difference in philosophy quite publicly.
well said Anne, totally agree with you. King has said over and over that he Loves to writeand has never done it just for the money.Patterson’s only in it to make a buck.
No, you’re not alone. A lot of Patterson hate out there, especially from King fans since King himself has trashed Patterson on several occasions. Which I think is really tacky when he does it. I love King, but putting down another writer is just lame. He is entitled to his own opinions, but still..
I just think, there are different ways of doing things and different books for different people. King will always have a piece of my heart, but that doesn’t mean a Patterson book every now and then will break the system down ?
Patterson has been my favorite author since I was like 17ish. My grandma nagged and nagged that I should read When the Wind Blows at the time. So I did it so she would stop it. And she knew what she was doing. 14 years later and more then one bookshelf full and I’m still hooked. Plus short choppy chapters are great for the busy folks (if they can withhold from reading all of it in one sitting).
They are supposed to be quick to the point and capable of being read in a day. Plus all the money goes to one of his literacy foundations. My fiance bought me a triple bookshot book of his. I was iffy too. But wasn’t too bad.
Exactly! Like I said I was iffy. It’s def aim to get busy people to read because they are shorter. But I have yet to find one of his books that I can’t read in a day.
He’s got quite a few out! Some are fillers to his main series. Like Alex Cross, The Women’s Murder Club, and Michael Bennett. And I’m sure there’s work for more.
I love Michael Bennett except the one with THE GUY WEARING THE HOODY (GONE). I Didn’t much care for that particular book. I like Alex Cross book series and The Women’s MURDER CLUB.
I’m still in the process of collecting the Bennett series. I have them scattered from buying them when I see them at thrift stores. But Alex Cross was my first actual series into Patterson’s work (And second series to read, first being Harry Potter) however I’m behind on the times. There’s too many to keep up. Now the Women’s Murder Club im all caught up with and waiting for the 17th one…because I’m still frasturated…my answer to Lindsey’s husband hasn’t been answered yet…and I want answers! If my hutch is right.
The first one I read was When the Wind Blows…its also the book I suggested to my adopted mom and she is now hooked. But I’m a big fan of the Cross series.
I love Stephen king but his books are really hard to read because he gives so much detail and drags out the story lol hence the reason his books are so long
James Patterson’s The Quickie, not sure I consider the best but lots of twists and turns as I remember. He has several good series and lots of stand alones that are good.
I think his early stuff, when he actually used to write, is worth noting. But I don’t think he gives his “co-authors” nearly enough credit, as they do the majority of the work. As such I refrain from reading them on principle.
If you like James Patterson… check out @Kelley she is an amazing Canadian author… she had many series and standalone novels as well. Id reccomend starting with Bitten is you love the supernatural world…
Me too! Im dying to be able to attemd one of her book readings/signings so i can get my hardcover copy of Bitten signed by her. But shes always too far away or it was during the week when i was working 🙁
I did however win a hardcover copy of her 3rd book “Forest of Ruin” from one of her YA series with Moria and Ashyn the Keeper and Seeker series.
She even personalized it with my name and signed it with a little msg!! Its literally my prized possession on my shelves lol. I have another signed by her (Men of the Otherworld) but its not personalized.
@Atrisha WHAT DID YOU THINK OF BOOK #1 NYPD RED? THE NEXT ONE comes out on MARCH 26 2018. WHAT ABOUT THE PRIVATE GAMES BOOK SERIES. OH, BY THE WAY, JAMES PATTERSON HAS A Tv coming out from one of his books, THE BOOK IS TITLED MURDER GAMES, THE TV SERIES IS TITLED: INSTINCT with ALAN CUMMINGS.
I have yet to read NYPD. I read the first Private Game I have the second which I plan on reading shortly. I have yet to watch any of the tv series. I know they did Zoo. I think lifetime was doing the Women’s Murder Club. But Zoo is on my to watch list.
Yeah but I never go by much stars or anything. But Patterson tends to be an author so I have yet to be disappointed with what iv e read. I’m weird like that
Not yet. I have some major Amazon shopping to do. It’s why I haven’t watched the series yet. But financial hard times made it a little hard to do all my.book shopping. I’ve been sticking to thrift stores and yard sales lately
Same here. Though I don’t judge a book so much by it’s cover anymore. I have a plain old brown book nothing on the covers. Only the seem hates the title. And it turned out awesome.
The book smell is highly intoxicating. But I also like the feel of it in my hands too. I have a kindle and only use it if I have to travel or I’m going away for a week or something as it’s much easier to carry around then a bunch of physical books. I will always prefer the physical but I’m old fashioned like that
Like the show True Blood? I have yet to watch or read. But very seldomly have i found books I don’t like. I usually find something I like. Sometimes it takes a while into the book.
@Atrisha NO I only saw it ON THE HBO WEBSITE. IT SUCKED ( PARDON THE PUN!) TOO MUCH NUDITY AND PROFANITY, THE ACTING WAS HORRIBLE, Including the directing and the writing was horrible. THE ONLY REDEEMING QUALITY, WAS THE TWO CHARACTERS, THEY GAY FRY COOK,LAFAYETT; NELSON ELLIS (WHO DIED OF AN DRUG OVERDOSE AND HIS COUSIN, TARA THORTON-rutina wesley.
Well say I still watch them. And I have every single one on DVD of those three. Not so much a fan of the newer stuff. But those where also the shows that were popular in my youth
Atrisha Getman I agree. books can’t be replaced. I AM LUKEWARM ABOUT HER BOOKS. You should check out CHARLAINEE HARRIS’ NEW BOOKS from the summer tv series MIDNIGHT TEXAS. BASED ON THE SAME NOVEL. THE SUMMER SHOW WAS TERRIFIC. It was good. NO CURSING, NO NUDITY. IT WAS REFRESHING.
Nice. I like to indulge in new material. So I will look into. Tv does take awhile for me to get into, unlike books. I actually spent well over a year without a single tv in.ky house and it didn’t bother me. And then my friend (now fiance) decided to bring me one.
It all depends on my mood. I do read a lot of Patterson (of course), but I also go to a lot of young adult, fantasy, true stories (Like Dave Peltzer), as well as historical fiction and non-fiction, I’m still on the fence of John Grisham, and I just started reading Stephen King. I also like real life stories told in novel form, such as The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy and Cancer, Cocaine, and Courage (A biography of Dorctor William Halsted) by Arthur Beckhead, not much on romance unless it’s Nicholas Sparks or one of James Patterson’s romances, I just started getting to where I like classics (I know crazy), and I have a bunch of VC Andrews that I need to start reading to see if I like, I also love Dan Brown (Books only, hate the movies), but my all time favorite is without a doubt Harry Potter (I read the series at least once a year).
Atrisha Getman DAN BROWN HAS A NEW BOOK OUT. HOLD UP!!!! JAMES PATTERSON HAS A ROMANCE BOOK OUT?! I AM LUKEWARM FOR HARRY POTTER. I ENJOY HARRY POTTER FANFICTION. I ENJOY CLASSICS.
I have only seen Origin inside stores as a new release which I’m looking forward to. He’s a great author and Hollywood does crap to his movies. I refuse to watch Inferno after watching Angels & Demons and The DaVinci Code
@Atrisha You mean the movies? There were movies from Dan Brown’s books. I only saw the first movie. Tom Hanks is a great actor and funny too. He was the last person I would pick to play Robert Langdon.
The first book was Angels & Demons but the first one Hollywood did was The DaVinci Code and they left so much out that I wasn’t impressed. And then to keep it out of order they just came out with Inferno last year and it should have been The Lost Symbol. But my fiance and his dad love the movies. I hate them. But I am also the only one who read the books
Nope there’s 2 more. And I refuse to watch the last one. But that’s me. I can be finicky. I even get mad watching the Harry Potter series because I know the books so well that I quote them expecting them to be in the movie but they’re not. ?
Atrisha Getman I DON’T LIKE HARRY POTTER. BUT I ENJOY HARRY POTTER FANFICTION. AND MY FAVORITE HARRY POTTER CHARACTER IS PROFESSOR SNAPE AND THE ELVES. AND FAVORITE ACTOR FROM HARRY POTTER IS ALAN RICKMAN.
I’m a HUGE fan. I started reading them when I was 17…and I’m 31 and I read them at least once every year (I might have a missed a couple) but it is my favorite story and love Alan Rickman, so sad he died, he was awesome as Professor Snape. And Snape is one of my favorite characters and I love Dobby. Disappointed they didn’t put much of him in the movies, he’s awesome! But to give you general idea of the fan I am…its the theme for my wedding…im doing the Hogwarts theme…theres even a castle a couple hours away that we are booking for it
I have and I loved them all! But I also keep up with Pottermore. Snape is a character of many layers. He can be very controversial depending on the person’s point of view. But my favorite part is how much JK truly intertwine everything. From characters to objects it’s all linked in some way.
Beverly Zipporah Wow!!!! cranky much. LOL!!!! ?I enjoy Patterson’s previous books that he wrote himself and even the ones that he co-authors. There SOME STEPHEN KING BOOS I ENJOY READING.
Beverly Zipporah I hope you weren’t offended with my post.I didn’t mean to make my post attitudie, especially with THE SO WHAT he is still enjoyable remark. And sorry about the ALL CAPS, THINGY. Should have made my post less attitudie. I enjoy Patterson co-authoring enjoyable.
Easier read. Easier to understand
Yeah, Stephen King gives so much unnecessary details sometimes.
And great for those whole love to read but don’t have much time in the day to do it. Quick chapters and a whole range of genres.
Eaxactly
I need to proof read before I got send. Lol
It’s all good. I didn’t notice the misspelling until after. We all make mistakes. And I’m not the one to blast someone over it.
I like both at different timeS
Depends on my mood
I love James Patterson
My James Patterson collection takes up 2.5 shelves of my bookcases lol
@Heather he makes 70 million a year. I’m happy to hear he does some positive things with it.
Yeah that is a shite ton of money for sure! He does more charity stuff, but I don’t follow too closely so I can’t speak to all of it
Lot of King fans like that about Dean Koontz too.and Dean Koontz fans too. Like you have to pick a side. I read what I want ??
This EXACTLY
I like to read him when Im sick lol because they are fast reads. But the quality did go down for awhile. I loved Murder Games/Instinct and Black Book
Those were both really good!
I like his mysteries, but Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas is probably my fave of his. *bring tissues*
Oh god that was a tear jerker for sure!!! But if you read his notes on his ‘romance’ they are usually based on real life experiences.. including that one. Which males it more heartbreaking
I did not know that! Knowing that someone actually experienced that IRL makes me want to cry all over again. ?
I like to read the acknowledgements and notes in every book. First Love was supposed to be on some real life experience too. And that was emotionally heartbreaking too. But it’s what makes him great.
I’ll put that one on the list. Thanks! Gotta keep Kleenex in business…
Yes!

Like I always tell people he writes something for just about anyone. He even has children books in trying to collect before I have kids, for them to read. Nothing like planning ahead.
I taught middle school for awhile, and love his YA novels!
I love his young adult novels too. Especially, like Maximum Ride…it makes you sometimes think what the government could be hiding from us
Usually more suspenseful than a King novel. I do like a good Patterson or King book.
James Patterson isn’t a self absorbed moron that’s why and his writing is moving with the times.
Oh and I don’t think King is a self absorbed moron. I hope we don’t bring politics onto the site.
well said Anne, totally agree with you.

Wow ?
Didn’t know any of this…
Yes
Yes.
I have more James Patterson
I don’t know whats happened to me either, but I’m starting to like Robert McCammon more than King
Robert McCammon is excellent. Someone recommended Swan Song to me years ago, and it’s still one of my favorites.
I’m reading Swan Song now Kimberlie. OMG I love it
I read Boys Life last week.
Beautiful book!!.
Patterson has been my favorite author since I was like 17ish. My grandma nagged and nagged that I should read When the Wind Blows at the time. So I did it so she would stop it. And she knew what she was doing. 14 years later and more then one bookshelf full and I’m still hooked. Noooooooo!
I am iffy on James Patterson’s BOOK SHOTS. Can anyone tell me what’s so special about Bookshops written by James PATTERSON?
They are supposed to be quick to the point and capable of being read in a day. Plus all the money goes to one of his literacy foundations. My fiance bought me a triple bookshot book of his. I was iffy too. But wasn’t too bad.
Ok. Cool.
PLUS THEY ARE CHEAP.
Exactly! Like I said I was iffy. It’s def aim to get busy people to read because they are shorter. But I have yet to find one of his books that I can’t read in a day.
I think that he has a new one coming out or it is out already out on http://amazon.com/
He’s got quite a few out! Some are fillers to his main series. Like Alex Cross, The Women’s Murder Club, and Michael Bennett. And I’m sure there’s work for more.

If my hutch is right.
Yes.?
I guess you are real King fan ?
yes, yes I am 🙂
James Patterson is my favorite!!!! ❤️
My too!!!
Mine too! ☺️
He is my first love dont get me wrong. But I might cheat on him ??
What’s the best Patterson book in your opinion? I’ll give it a try
I love the entire Alex Cross series. That got me hooked on him!
The first one I read was When the Wind Blows…its also the book I suggested to my adopted mom and she is now hooked. But I’m a big fan of the Cross series.
That was like reading the Exorcists my mind just spun!
Yes. It was very interesting.
Jaiden Bora He’s not very good at endings but the ride is reliably fun.
I love Stephen king but his books are really hard to read because he gives so much detail and drags out the story lol hence the reason his books are so long
I love James Patterson
ME TOO, I LOVE James Patterson.
Yeah, he is giving you all those details, making you imagine and than at the end squeezing everything.
James Patterson’s The Quickie, not sure I consider the best but lots of twists and turns as I remember. He has several good series and lots of stand alones that are good.
A lot of twist and turns. Just when I thought it was over another one popped up.
Agreed on the endings! Man he writes people well though. Completely nails human nature
Is that a recommendation? Have never read him.
Don’t be ashamed! I’m not! Lol
I think his early stuff, when he actually used to write, is worth noting.
But I don’t think he gives his “co-authors” nearly enough credit, as they do the majority of the work.
As such I refrain from reading them on principle.
james patterson has a new book COMING out: JUROR #3 ON SEPTEMBER 17th 2018
If you like James Patterson… check out @Kelley she is an amazing Canadian author… she had many series and standalone novels as well.
Id reccomend starting with Bitten is you love the supernatural world…
Love reading Kelly Armstrong
Lucky you!!
HAS ANY ONE READ NYPD RED SERIES BY JAMES PATERSON?
Not yet. Only have the first one right now. I’m waiting to get more so I can binge read

@Atrisha ZOO HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Yeah but it’s on Netflix right now
@Atrisha NYPD RED BOOK SERIES GOT BETWEEN 4 TO 5 STARS.
NYPD RED 3 GOT 5 STARS.
Yeah but I never go by much stars or anything. But Patterson tends to be an author so I have yet to be disappointed with what iv e read. I’m weird like that
@Atrisha HAVE YOU READ ZOO BOOK SERIES?
@Atrisha ME TOO. I GO BY MY GUT INSTINCT AND ALSO HOW INTERESTING THE BOOK COVERS LOOK LIKE.
Not yet. I have some major Amazon shopping to do. It’s why I haven’t watched the series yet. But financial hard times made it a little hard to do all my.book shopping. I’ve been sticking to thrift stores and yard sales lately
@Atrisha I MAYBE A LITTLE TIRED AND GETTING BRAIN FARTS. WHAT tv series are you talking about? CLARIFY. THANKS.
Same here. Though I don’t judge a book so much by it’s cover anymore. I have a plain old brown book nothing on the covers. Only the seem hates the title. And it turned out awesome.
Zoo. Even though it’s cancelled I just saw it on Netflix last night browsing for the Walking Dead
@Atrisha YES ME TOO. I between having the physical copy and the digital version for my kindle. i like the new book smell.
@Atrisha thanks for clarifying.
@Atrisha i agree. the last time i picked a book out i chose horribly. and it was Charlaine HARRIS’ TRUE BLOOD BOOK SERIES. AND IT WAS HORRIBLE BOOKS.
The book smell is highly intoxicating. But I also like the feel of it in my hands too. I have a kindle and only use it if I have to travel or I’m going away for a week or something as it’s much easier to carry around then a bunch of physical books. I will always prefer the physical but I’m old fashioned like that
@Atrisha ME TOO. I USE MY KINDLE ON A RAINY DAY AND on a nice weather day, I carry the book.
Like the show True Blood? I have yet to watch or read. But very seldomly have i found books I don’t like. I usually find something I like. Sometimes it takes a while into the book.
Books are awesome! I don’t think they’ll ever be fully replaced.
I’ve never really seen the show. But I have watched a lot of vampire/supernatural shows in my life…esp the older ones like Buffy, Angel, Charmed, etc
@Atrisha What did you think of them (BUFFY, ANGEL, CHARMED etc.?)
@Atrisha What kind of book.
What kind of books do I like read?
@Atrisha yes.
@Atrisha LET ME CLARIFY. WHAT type of genre.
@Atrisha I saw the movie with tom hanks from one of dan brown’s books. I think it was Book #1 .
I love Tom Hanks just not those movies. I loved him in Sully and that was a serious film. And yes the Robert Langdon movies are Dan Brown’s books.
@Atrisha OH! SHIT!!! I MISSED THOSE MOVIES, I THOUGHT YOU WERE YANKING MY CHAIN! SHIT!!!! I MISSED THOSE LAST TWO MOVIES!!!!

@Atrisha Good for you Congrats. I have you read any HARRY POTTER FANFICTION? I love the ones with ONES WITH PROFESSOR SNAPE!
I have and I loved them all! But I also keep up with Pottermore. Snape is a character of many layers. He can be very controversial depending on the person’s point of view. But my favorite part is how much JK truly intertwine everything. From characters to objects it’s all linked in some way.
@Atrisha true.
Tbf though… King’s more recent publications have been… Borderline terrible.
It’s funny, because he is coauthoring more and more too. Lmao! Oh well, we still have Joe
His latest co-author foray with his son, Owen, was terribad.
I have it, but haven’t read it yet
@Corinne TALKING ABOUT STEPHEN KING RIGHT?
JUST READ EXERPT OF JAMES PATTERSON’S BLACK BOX.
No thank you.
@Heather YOU MEAN JOE HILL, RIGHT? STEPHEN KING’S SON RIGHT?
Yep 🙂 he’s good too
Joe writes like early King. But he doesn’t have as much of a filter. He doesn’t pull punches, which can be good or bad. Lol
He is giving other authors a chance to be known and he does wonderful donations with his money, independent book stores, schools, etc.
Wow, that would be a no (for me) ? huge fan of King ? here
Not a big fan of either. If I had to read one it would be Patterson.
I’ve never been able to finish a King book but always finish Patterson books.
I don’t like Stephen King love James Patterson
Me too
I love them both, unless you like horror and want to be scared you will not like Stephen King.
Fan of both. Which of them I read depends on my mood. King books you have to invest more time into…Patterson are much easier reads.
Always loved Patterson more than King & if u like Patterson so much try JEFFREY DEAVER
Love Patterson, not a King fan!!
I loved Stephen king for the longest, started reading James Patterson and now I can’t stop.
i agree, can’t stop with james patterson.
I have almost every single book of his.
Don’t like either of them anymore.
Just out of curiosity why?
Patterson is a hack. He doesn’t even write his own novels.

And Stephen King, I just find him garrulous and meandering now.
Beverly Zipporah Wow!!!! cranky much. LOL!!!! ?I enjoy Patterson’s previous books that he wrote himself and even the ones that he co-authors. There SOME STEPHEN KING BOOS I ENJOY READING.
I used to like both of them. Now I don’t.
@Beverly I STILL LOVE PATTERSON EVEN THOUGH HE CO-AUTHORS. So what, he is still enjoyable to read.
His chapters are too choppy for me and his characterization is poor imo. You’re entitled to your opinion. He has a lot of fans.
I wasn’t offended. ? No worries.
@Beverly Thanks.
Traitor!
I like both but definitely love Patterson more bc that was the first “adult” author I read and got me out of a huge 3 year reading slump
Patterson makes me so cross in last 10 years so I stand with the King
Lol..7 year itch?
Easy to do
i like laundry detergent box blurbs better than Steven King
Say it ain’t so!!!! ?
Love both though King is my favorite
I never liked Stephen king books 😀
I do lol
Patterson for me…A.D.D.
Stephen King for me
Me too
CERTAIN JAMES PATTERSON BOOKS AND CERTAIN STEPHEN KING BOOKS.
It depends,on my mood.
LOL your GIF.
I thought James Patterson doesn’t even write his books anymore?
He does and also co-authors.
Totally false. He writes his own and co-authors. They do the 1st draft with input from him and he does the rewrites.
I agree with you.
I am a big Patterson fan also
They are completely different….
I like them both fairly equally.
JP is better that’s why
