Let me expand on that, lol… the end is the best part. So it does get better. But in all, for me, not worth the time.

If you are only in the first two chapters, give it some more. Otherwise shut it down. I loved the book and have read it twice. Everyone in my book club loved it too. Not every book is for everyone though.

IMO It is good from the start and so if you’re not enjoying it, give up.

No. I made myself read it because of all the comments. If you like depressing stories carry on but life’s too short. (The humour everyone talks of is a mystery to me I didn’t find it heart warming eirher).

He isn’t the easiest if characters to get on with, but that’s why I liked him! There are reasons he is so difficult…. Sometimes the wish to keep control of one’s life is because you want it to stay the way it always was when life was different…. And to prevent your real self and feelings showing.

I keep picking it up where I left off several times over the past year or so but really can’t get into it, so it’s a big no from me.

the book has different meanings for different people and i think thats how they get into it. For me Ove represented my Dad/Grandpa and it made it personal to me so i was sucked in.

You will either love it or leave it

If you like fast paced books this is not one of those. It is a study of a man who is into himself.

The last half more than makes up for it.

It’s really boring (?) at first bc he’s just a regular old man doing regular stuff. There’s a turnaround a little more into it and from there it becomes fascinating.

I loved Ove from the very start. His character appealed to me as did all of the characters. If you don’t warm to Ove, I am not sure how you will enjoy the book. I LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT. I hope you can persevere and enjoy it.

Yes it gets better as it goes along, but if you can’t get into the style of writing, don’t drive yourself mad. There are millions more books out there….! 🙂
