I didn’t like Ready Player One and I read it before it was commercially available because it was written by my son’s friend. I did not enjoy the video game aspect of it at all.

Both my sons loved it, I only did the movie… that was enough gaming for me ?

I’m thinking about Stephen King right now. Not sure which one to send. I love The Stand, but it’s really long for someone who doesn’t read a lot.

The only decision I have made so far is Fahrenheit 451.

Ooo and my 22 year old is pre-ordening this one… he read Eragon over and over in his (even) younger years.

My 20 y/o loved those books too. He used to have such a passion for reading. I wonder if he would read this book.

1
Terri

I would suggest some short story books, just in case he doesn’t have much time to read sometimes and I would suggest something uplifting to help him through his downtime and lower days when he is feeling down.

Perhaps a silly thought.. but would a Kindle Paperwhite with a couple of month Kindle unlimited be a more practical gift?
It’s no more expensive than 6/7 books and shipping..

I want him to pass the books on to others when he’s done.

Or if u get a sony ereader you can get books from anywhere, not limited to a certain online shop & can get ebooks from friends etc. Saves a bit of money.

Sony does not make eReaders anymore.. and I buy books from a variety of sources (also Dutch books in ePub) and I read them al on my Kindle.
Just install Calibre (it’s free) on your computer and you can handle almost all written content.

Ohhh good to know. I have an old Sony Ereader which Ive had for about 10 years. Its a bit beaten up so was going to start looking for a replacment. Wont be getting a Sony ?

NevaQuestion author

I am not interested in sending any thing electronic because I want him to pass the books along to shipmates. Also, because he is not yet what we would call “a reader” I’m trying to think of books that will interest him and draw him into becoming a reader,

What a brilliant idea is there a site where you can send books to our troops. If not I think someone should set it up.

I served on an aircraft carrier (the Nimitz) when I was 21. Served on a few long cruises. Loved Westerns. I went through a bunch of the Longarm series. Longmire looks similar these days.

Tell him to take a kindle and download from http://navy.libraryreserve.com/

He will only have 18 inches of storage under his rack and no real place to store books as all his uniforms and civilian clothes have to fit there… and toiletries and shoes….

Especially if he’s not a reader… he’s going to prioritize what he stores
