Joyce and Jim Lavene wrote the Renaissance Faire Mystery series. They take place in modern times but are set in a Renaissance village where everyone acts according to the their characters in the village. This is a cozy series. The first few books were really good, but then they started leaning more towards the supernatural, which to me didn’t work with this premise.

LOVE Brother Cadfael! The PBS series starring Derek Jacobi was wonderful as well. And for those who love gardening, there’s also “Brother Cadfael’s Herb Garden.”
@Leann I love him too! It was one of the first historical mystery I read and I binge read the series 😀
I binge read the series myself after watching the TV series. I wish there were more of them! And do check out the garden book, if you get a chance – it’s wonderful too!

I knew I had read a book in a series about a medieval theatre troupe, but had to look through my Goodreads books to remember it. It was the “Joliffe the Player” series by Margaret Frazer. The book I read was good, but a little dry in places.
