Mark Twain’s Roughing It and John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row are two classics that have some “laugh out loud” moments.

maybe not Sacre Blue

Stephen

@James, you’re right. That wasn’t “laugh out loud” funny, but it was, nonetheless, a brilliant novel. Thanks for the reminder.

Stephen

The first Moore books I read were Fluke and Bloodsucking Fiends. They are funny. Fluke is full of surprises, too.

Non fiction, but Bill Bryson is an hilarious travel writer. Also you could try Douglas Adams Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy. Good Omens is a great read by Neil Gaiman and Terry pratchett. Christopher Moore writes some funny books too.

If you like fantasy, Piers Anthony’s Xanth books have a healthy helping of humor. Heaping amounts of puns, too.

Are you looking for “clean” humor or are you ok with “crude” humor (cursing, sexual innuendo, crass). If you don’t mind the later, I would recommend “The Lightning Struck Heart”… I loved it so much I was making people read passages as I went along. Here’s a character listing just to start. A hornless gay unicorn, a wizard’s apprentice who is oblivious to everything, a knight “the dreamiest dream to have ever been dreamed” and a horny dragon. It definitely made me laugh but I have a very twisted sense of humor. (very)Adult fantasy humor.

The two books that have made me laugh the hardest are probably “The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared” and “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”.

Anything by Gervase Phinn. He is hilarious. I can’t stop laughing when I read his books. He used to be a school inspector and his wife was a teacher and his tales of what the little ones get up to or come out with are so so funny. I have seen him live at the theatre twice and I listen to his audio books as he is just so animated.
