I am curious. Does anyone remember speed reading? Did you learn it, like it or get anything out of what you were reading?

Hey, @Fee, I think it must have been late 70s or early 80s. I never learned it but I was wondering if anybody learned it and if anyone still uses it.

I went to high school (early ’80s) with a girl who learned speed reading. My understanding is that it was basically a type of skimming through what you were reading. The downside was she would occasionally miss a modifying word and get the gist of what she was reading wrong (in text books).

I tried to learn it a couple of times, but totally failed. I am incapable of ‘skimming’ a book and retaining anything I read! Trying to read a book without reading every word was hard work for me…I gave up on the idea of being a fast reader and just continued at my own pace. 🙂

I wasn’t ‘taught’ it, but I’ve been reading since I was 3, so maybe I’m just naturally fast? I do tend to read faster than most people, but I can also read faster than I normally do if I’m really into the story or am in a hurry and want to just skim an article. I never purposely speed read a book. 🙂
