Ruth Rendell aka Barbara Vine. Excellent writing, suspenseful plots and great characters. She was also very prolific so she will keep you busy for quite some time!
Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway series, Aline Templeton’s books, she has some stand alones but particularly like her DI Marjory Fleming series, Harry Binghams Fiona Griffith series. On the lighter side Elizabeth Duncan’s Penny Brannigan books, and of course Alan Bradley’s Flavia De Luce books!
Dick Francis. His mystery stories are set in the steeplechase racing circuit. Some controversy about how much his wife contributed to the writing but the stories are great!
Can you recommend some of your favorites?
I’m currently in a Sofia Hannah binge…her books are awesome
Ruth Rendell, suspenseful excellence, psycho thrillers
Martha Grimes
Anne Perry, Monk series
Ian Rankin, Scotland

Although, Louise Penny…
Val MacDermid & Ian Rankin are favorites of mine.
They also have a great sense of humor.
If you love British mysteries try the British Library Crime Classics series. Golden Age mysteries reprinted.
