I absolutely LOVE my book jar♡♡

I actually have 2 jars, one for older books and one for new releases. I have a tendency to forget about older books ….. I read 2 books from the older jar, then 1 from the new jar.

I go with my heart. It tell me. Compare it to food: If before a meal: you have to choose, say, between an omelet, bowl of soup, or rice pudding. The body will tell you what it wants. Same for me with books. It might not be a fair judgment, but usually something beckons.

A good way to figure out what you want to read is pick a few and ask them to pick one, usually you realize what you want them to pick then

Close your eyes, circle around 3 times, point, open your eyes. That is how to pick a book.

mine are all on shelves in alphabetical order by author so I just start at the beginning and go from there. This is the result of working 20+ years in libraries and being a bit OCD.

and probably memorizing the Dewey Decimal system

yes! although I have yet to shelve them by their Dewey classification but the non-fiction are all in their own section from the fiction. I have more fiction than non-fiction.

Number 10 books 1-10. Then ask us for a number between 1 & 10. The number that comes up the most is the book you read.

Assign books numbers and then use a random number generator.

Number all your books, and then use a random number generator to pick which one to read next.

I just browse through a bookstore or library, and if a title catches my eye, I’ll read the synopsis and if it interests me I’ll read the first few pages to see if I’d enjoy the book.

I think of the ones that grab my attention most then go on goodreads and read the premise of each of them and which ever one gets me more excited I go grab it from my shelf or grab my e-reader.
