Just depends. I wrote a full book, then decided to split it so I am still writing and editing though technically I have finished. Whatever works for you.
If the next book I want to read is similar to the one I just finished then usually the next day but usually it’s quite different so minutes. I usually have more than one book on the go as well.
It depends on the book I just read. Sometimes I need a few days to really contemplate and absorb the story, characters, the experience. If the book is not that great, I can start another one right away. I like to “live” with a great story for a while before starting another one
Wow you’re all so intense lol it takes me a while to finish a book I’m a slow reader with a short attention span so sometimes it takes a while before I’m able to pick up another one sometimes like a month. Guess I’m a bad reader lol
Pretty much right away but if I get z book hangover it can take me up to a week and even then when I do, it may take me a bit longer to find THE book I want to read following that. I just done that, I went to read one after one book hangover and 100 pages in really did not want to read that and ended up reading another I had. Finished the other the following morning and began my next one there and then. Just shows it’s all different at times
Depends on how late it is. If i finish one too late at night I’ll at least pick out the next one. If its during the day then I’ll try to start another right away if my son allows it lol?
Depends on how emotionally involved I was and if I end up with reader’s hangover. If that happens it can take me days or weeks to start a new one. If not, I start right away.
Depends on the motivation. Reading a big book can be exhausted ? then I’ll get some rest for a day or two before picking up a new book. Can’t be longer than that bcoz I’ll start to feel guilty
Wow! So cool to see so many who pick up another book that same day!!! I dont read often and rarely finish a book cause i get really picky… but i guess when i dnf one i do try to find something else right then to satisfy… and so begins the cycle.
Depends. If it’s a series and I’ve got the next one then straight away! But sometimes I want to live in the book’s world a bit longer, so I wait until the feeling fades ?
Depends on the last book I read. If it’s a complex one, I tend to do some research to understand it further before moving on. But if it’s light and a feel-good type, I start another almost immediately.
It really depends on the book and the subject it was about. Sometimes I stop and ponder. Sometimes I move quickly to another one cause it energized me.
I also usually read more than one book at a time,,,but the content varies,,for Fiction,,,I like to let a bit of time between them,,,to sort of let the last book “soak in”,,,,not too long tho’…..
I am usually reading several books at the same time. When I finish one, there is still the other ones to finish. On the rare occasions that I have finished all of them, I wait at least a day before starting anything new.
minutes
I just finished a really intense book feeling a little drained.
Immediately! ?
as soon as i can
Depends. Sometimes right away, sometimes I’ll wait a day or two
Immediately
I sometimes have more than one book on the go… lol
Just depends. I wrote a full book, then decided to split it so I am still writing and editing though technically I have finished. Whatever works for you.
Right away!
Same day
right away
Usually the next day.
Right away
Depends on the book and how it impacted on me
If the next book I want to read is similar to the one I just finished then usually the next day but usually it’s quite different so minutes. I usually have more than one book on the go as well.
The next evening
More or less right away
immediately
Immediately
Immediately…there’s no time to waste!!!
Try to have two going at a time, one fiction and one non.
Immediately unless the last book was super emotional and I need time …. lol
Same day!!
Same day or same hour in some cases
Immediately
Oh I’m reading 3 books now lol. I just finished one of them today.
Immediately after.
It depends on the book I just read. Sometimes I need a few days to really contemplate and absorb the story, characters, the experience. If the book is not that great, I can start another one right away. I like to “live” with a great story for a while before starting another one
Usually within 24 hours unless the book puts me in a book hangover. In that case it can take me 2-3 days to start something new.
Immediately

No such thing as a “bad” reader. Reading is to be enjoyed at your pace. It shouldn’t be a competition.
Immediately

If same series, immediately. If not then usually the next day unless I finish in morning, then I will read new one at bedtime.
Depends on the book but definitely within 24 hours
I usually download a new one before I’m done with my current one
Depends on how late it is. If i finish one too late at night I’ll at least pick out the next one. If its during the day then I’ll try to start another right away if my son allows it lol?
Right away. No moss settles under my boots
Immediately.
One breath to the next.
Instantly
Right away
depends what time it is, lol!
Immediately
Immediately.
Straight from one to the next to the next.
The next day, usually.
That depends. If a book really pulled me in, I need a bit of time to get back to this world before diving headlong into another one.
Depends on the time of day when I finish. Usually I finish on Sunday and wait until Monday to start a new one.
30 seconds.
Put down one, pick up another.
As soon as I get ahold of another book
Usually a few days. I want the old book to marinate in my brain a few days while I think about it from 50 angles.
If I don’t pick one within 24hrs I don’t read for a month because mom life gets in the way. So I make sure to have a book going all the time.
I have such a large tbr that it’s usually right after.
depends some books need time to absorb other times i have another really good one waiting and can’t help myself.
usually within a day or so….. sometimes immediately …. depends on how deeply I was affected by the one I just finished.
Right away
straight away.
About an hour
Depends on how emotionally involved I was and if I end up with reader’s hangover. If that happens it can take me days or weeks to start a new one. If not, I start right away.
Depends on the book. If it’s deep and thought provoking a day or so. If it’s something light i go on to the next book.
Same day. I always love choosing a new book! ?
If it’s a series yes but solo no I need a break to gain my senses back to read another book, different story to imprint me like before did
Immediately!
Right away.
right away usually
Immediately.
Before I finish the last book
I can’t finish a book without knowing what I’m going to read next.
Pretty much immediately.
Depends on the motivation. Reading a big book can be exhausted ? then I’ll get some rest for a day or two before picking up a new book. Can’t be longer than that bcoz I’ll start to feel guilty
Immediately. I go to my piles and select one that I think will be an interesting read.
Immediately ?

The time it takes to reach my bookshelf to grab the next
As long as it takes me to walk into the office and grab another one. So about 30 seconds.
Immediately. I want to get back on track a read at least a book a week. My goal is to read 100 books in one year. I came close with 73.
As soon as I finish a book I put it back on the shelf and then the task of picking the next book to read begins. It is always such a tough decision.
Minutes
Never more than 24 hours.
Depends on the aftermath of a book. Some books leave you wrecked and it stays with you for sometime before you can move on to the next book!
Straight away.
Depends. If it’s a series and I’ve got the next one then straight away! But sometimes I want to live in the book’s world a bit longer, so I wait until the feeling fades ?
Right away
Immediately!
Immediately
Same day
Right away if I have one lined up or at least start looking for one. Although, getting out of that book’s “world” is a lot of times hard, real hard.
Usually right away. Unless a book has a particularly devastating ending, then I might need a few minutes. Lol
that day
I am always playing hopscotch across multiple books…so always have books in progress. 🙂
I’ve always have more than one going
Immediately
Usually just few minutes 😀
Oh, I may take a bathroom break if needed.
immediatly or the next day when it’s time to sleep xD
I usually choose a new one and then start it the next day.
Immediately
That very moment.
Immediately
Depends on the last book I read. If it’s a complex one, I tend to do some research to understand it further before moving on. But if it’s light and a feel-good type, I start another almost immediately.
Immediately after. Unless it was a book I really loved. Then I’ll savour that feeling for a few days
Immediately. I’m always reading more than one
immediately
Straight away. I hate not having a book on the go.
Next one is sitting and waiting within reach
No breath in between ?
Immediately if not sooner!
Well i carry the new one around and start it in a few hours probably.
It depends on the book. If it’s hit me emotionally then I need a day
Within 5 minutes.. .
Immediately, always have backups.
The next day
It depends on my mood or my schedule ?
Me too !
Depending on when I finished it usually right away
Sometimes within the same day. But if it’s a really good book, I ride the afterglow for a couple of days before I start a new one
Within minutes but have it picked out & ready before I even start said book
Immediately
It depends on the book. If it was profound it takes me a day or two otherwise right away.
Straight away
It really depends on the book and the subject it was about. Sometimes I stop and ponder. Sometimes I move quickly to another one cause it energized me.
I am usually reading more than one book at a time so I am always reading most of the time so I would say right away
Immediately!
ASAP ?
I also usually read more than one book at a time,,,but the content varies,,for Fiction,,,I like to let a bit of time between them,,,to sort of let the last book “soak in”,,,,not too long tho’…..
I don’t read while I’m writing, but if I’m reading and not writing, one right after the other.
I take a rest to think of the book, to build an opinion about it..
I am usually reading several books at the same time. When I finish one, there is still the other ones to finish. On the rare occasions that I have finished all of them, I wait at least a day before starting anything new.
sometimes 5minutes…other times can’t find anything worthwhile or start book and abandon them and find my book after 3-7 days!
Immediately.
Depends on what time of day I finish but always within 24 hours.
