Oh! Beyond possessive. I’m crazy. I don’t lend my books out and if i order a book and it’s damaged I’ll send it back to get a new one. I love my books to be beautiful and well taken care of so they can last through my lifetime and beyond!

My mum ordered a manga novel for my niece once and sent it back because it was printed back to front… not gonna lie, I was crying with laughter! lol

1
Amber

Hahahaha! She didn’t know! Poor thing!

1
Hayley

Yeah, but I never miss an opportunity to wind her up ?

0
Yves

I always wrap it in plastic to protect it from dust and water and I tend not to lend books unless he/she is someone I trust. And I always get passive aggressive when I remind them to take care of my books being borrowed. So yeah. Possessive

Yep extremely possessive and very blunt about telling people no when they ask if they can borrow my books lol

1
Reply
Stacy

I’m not. There are a couple that are special because of who gave them to me but the rest are “things.” Things I love but want to share with people so the book can continue to live (the adventure too!!).

0

Anne

I love my books and want to share them, but they are MINE! (I solve this dilemma by picking up extra copies of books I like at thrift stores and library sales. Then I can just GIVE the book away, but still keep MINE!????)

I don’t lend books. When contracters came to repair LR ceiling after winter of snow I told them one drop of paint on a book, they would be sopranos. I have some first edition signed books by Asimov, Clement, a signed bibliography of Heinleins work. Those are carefully shelved. I will sell some books to be able to buy others.

1

Wendy

Only person I would lend one of my books to is my daughter who loves reading just as much as I do

1
Reply
Hayley

Same here, I know my daughter wouldn’t ruin my books as she loves her books to be perfect 🙂

0
Steven

Depends on how expensive it was and how easy it would be to replace. When you lend something out, you’re accepting the fact you may never see it again, regardless of whether it’s a book or anything else.

I have a large collection of hardcover bios/memoirs/letters and friends often look at them when they visit which is fine by me. While I am rather possessive of these, I generally give away paperbacks either to friends or the library.

I will loan most of my books but there are a few like my Harry Potter’s and old books from when I was a kid that I hang onto very possessively. Otherwise, I will give freely and even if I don’t get them back I will be happy as long as they get passed on and read by someone else. Share the love I say!

I buy them on my Kindle so I have an excuse not to loan them out. Everyone in my household is on my Amazon account so they each have their own copy of books. This works great when my husband and I want to read the same book at the same time. I only have to buy it once!

I believe in,if you have loved it,set it free.I love donating my read books to my local Open Bookshelf.
I have been exposed to so many great books by picking up other people’s donated books, and I hope to share the literature love with my fellow bibliophiles in my neighbourhood.
I keep very few books, except for my collection of children’s books, which are now my sons books

1
Reply
Jeanette

I also donate. I pretty much have a system. Certain books on my book shelf, some I will keep on my Kindle as I loved and want to re-read (this helps because I have a no-clutter policy) and ones I bought for fun and I donate after.

1
Jeanette

Oh, and I love to do the donate to literacy programs at the book store or other places — I get excited about those.

0
Jeanette

Well, I’m sure we all do some or all of that…
