Never! I’m a germaphobe so I don’t like touching books that lots of other people have touched multiple times. I don’t like the smell of old library books either.
That’s so funny!! I tell my kids not to touch the books and hate when my son has to bring it home from school!! But I just found out about borrowing e books!!!!!
All the time now. I was really grossed out at first, but I got over it when I realized how much money I was actually spending on books. And it’s worse for the environment to just have it sit on my shelf.
I used to all the time, but I like to own books now. My local one doesn’t keep up with new releases, for one thing. I go there to read in the summer, though.
I try to go at least once a week! We only started last summer. I had been unaware of how great they are before then. I use their overdrive /jasmine on my Kindle, and borrow audio books for my car (and my kid loves having one on while he plays in his room). I have a harder time reading physical books I get from the library, though. I don’t know what it is. I just always seem to find stuff to distract myself instead of reading it?
I used to borrow ebooks off the library via overdrive but Adobe digital editions kept crashing my lap top & destroying my WiFi access so I gave up. I think its probably Adobe not liking my ancient lap top
I mostly borrow them from overdrive on my kindle. I used to work at the library and checked out physical copies all the time but now that I’m a stay at home mom I don’t tend to go as much. Libraries aren’t as relaxing when you’re keeping eyes on a three and eight year old.
I’m the youth librarian… I have at least 5 books at all times. Before I started my library career I was also a person who wanted to own my books. However, student loans and life caught up to me as I got older and, with the exception of my oc box, there are more important places my money needs to go. P.S. if your library doesn’t have the books you want, there is probably a system in place that will allow the bok you want to be sent over from a different library to yours. That way you can enjoy your books without driving to other libraries to get them.
This! My library is really small and doesn’t get a lot of funding. But all the cities in my area are in a network to share books, not including the greater state network that often has what I need. I think once in my 20 some years of having a library card I have not been able to get my hands on a specific book, because all copies had been damaged or lost
Once a month or so. It depends. I swap books with friends a lot though. (I shop at used and local stores as much as possible, but use Amazon for new releases of favorite authors or for hard to find stuff.) I also get OwlCrate, so there’s no shortage of books to read.
I check out books from my library two or three times a week. I love the library and I’m pretty surprised to see so many of you grossed out my library books. I also regularly check out ebooks and audiobooks from my library using Overdrive. I like to own books, but I don’t need to own all of them. I can always check a book out a second time if I want to reread it.
Oh I did too. At some point in my life I just stopped reading regularly. I have only recently rediscovered my love for reading. I think a lot of the initial attitude came from working in a super clean office and always cleaning my desk and whatnot. I don’t work that job any more. ?
Yeah I’m surprised at the amount of people who have issues with library books too…seems weird to me because I grew up going to the library every week so it’s never occurred to me to be grossed out.
I’d like to blame how many books we as a family have out from the library on the fact that I work at the library….but we’ve always used our library a lot. Currently we have 52 items checked out. 4 movies, 10 graphic novels, 8 audio books (playaways for my blind husband-AMAZING btw, so easy for him to enjoy), and the rest are novels. I LOVE the my family is a reading family.

It’s fine though. Another reason I don’t use libraries is because I like to own my books, in case I want to reread them.

Most libraries you can borrow ebooks and audio books.
Always!!!
Since I re-discovered it like half a year ago I’ve borrowed a lot. Specially Norwegian books as they are so expensive to buy (between $40-50).
All the time now. I was really grossed out at first, but I got over it when I realized how much money I was actually spending on books. And it’s worse for the environment to just have it sit on my shelf.
Always! I haven’t bought a book (except for my sub boxes) almost all year. My library gets almost all the new releases.
All the time! I often have 2-3 books out at a time, and a few more on hold.
I used to all the time, but I like to own books now. My local one doesn’t keep up with new releases, for one thing. I go there to read in the summer, though.
If you count my sons books we are there at least once a month. Lol.
I work there so probably around 5 days a week lol
A few times a month via kindle
I try to stay away so I can read the books I actually own but I keep getting sucked back to the library.

I just started!
Weekly but I use lysol wipes and wipe them down before anyone in our household can use them.
Not as much as I used to. I used to be there every couple weeks but now I rarely go
Not often…. Because I own a lot of books that aren’t read. I do it with books I’m iffy about. Currently… Stalking Jack the Ripper is my library book.
I almost always have 13 books checked out at any given time…or more

I do this all the time! My requested books come from all over the state 🙂

All the time! Both real and digital! But I have 400+ at home and need to concentrate on reading those… Oh well.
I got to the library almost every single day! Its my happy place:)
I used to borrow every week, but I have so many at home that I need to read.

It was totally a mental thing for me. And then I realized I get really dirty at work every day so idk why I was worried about it…
That’s fair – I just practically grew up at the library, so it has always been normal for me.
