Not enough ?? I usually take some time after work before I pick him up from daycare. Some days it’s to have adult interaction but most days I read.

I am in my own office, so I listen to audio books through headphones while I’m working when I’m able, I gave the kindle app on my phone, so I’ve always got a book on me for waiting rooms, 5 min breaks, etc. I don’t watch soaps at all and tend to nor watch more than 2-3 hours of tv a day. That leaves plenty of time for reading beetle bed.

That’s what I’ve been doing lately! I can’t wait till they’re a little older. I’m hoping I can read more once they grow up a little bit.

Reading in the bathroom now so the light doesn’t wake them, lol.

I hope you can. It’s definitely a blessing most of the time. Lol. I’m pretty new at it (my boy is 6 months). I love it but I’m finding I need to make time for me and get out of the house by myself some to stay sane. 😉

1

Not enough since I work nights and tend to sleep when the kids nap. Maybe a few hours a week.

Lots. I read while the youngest is in the shower. I read while I wait for a pot to boil. I read while my kids sleep. I read while they watch tv. I declare the main floor screen free for a day and we all read a lot.

I read nearly every single day and own my business, work full time, and have a 3 year old. I primarily read on a kindle which means I can start reading within 2 seconds, can read in the dark, and I’m never without another book when I finish one.

Bedtime and lunch break at work. Few minutes in the morning sometimes if I’m really into the book

I definitely don’t read as much as I used to, but I try to make time during naps/after I get the kids to bed at night. Sometimes if we are having a quiet time where they are playing with each other (I have 3) I’ll sit near them and read. Just all depends on moods.

I barely have time. ? I can only really get reading in at night but by then I’m usually exhausted and don’t read too much. But I try whenever I have a some free time if any during the day.

My daughter is 6 and her dad reads to her every night before bed. She’s learning to read now and I can’t wait til she reads on her own and hopefully finds the enjoyment like I did.

0

i wish my kids liked books, its hell trying to get the oldest to read, and looks like the little one is following suit, but sometimes he will let me read to him

0
Priscille

Erin Adams I think you have to find books that they will like. I don’t know how old your kids are, but for my children, to get their interest, I had to read up for them. Picture books didn’t do it. I was doing chapter books with them when they barely knew their letters. I read to them during meals. They were slow eaters, and I would pull out a book and read. At night, I would sit on the sofa with one kid at a time perched between my legs and read stopping here and there for simple words, the, or red or whatever that was within their grasp. The next kid then got his turn. When they could take over, they would, but reading was a bedtime routine until they were probably ten. I couldn’t keep them in books. Until the boys got to be maybe eight grade, then I sort of lost them. One of them is still a big reader, not so much the other two. Middle school age boys are tough. My kids liked humor, so I mostly went with that.

0
Erin

@Priscille i have a 2 1/2 yr old boy and 10 yr old girl, my daughter it’s like pulling teeth, but every once in a while will find a story she enjoys, my son i used to read to while nursing, and every so often will let me read outloud to him

0
Priscille

@Erin It can be hard. Do you drive her back and forth to activities? Try some YA on audio while she’s in the car with you.

When my kids were, well, kids, we used to make at least one trip to their grandmother every year. She lived a thousand miles away. We put a Harry Potter CD in and drove. They were rapt. No video games, no movies on DVD, just the audio book. My husband and I also enjoyed listening. That began my love of audio books. Mind you, if the kids are in the car, you have to pick either something appropriate or be prepared to skip a few scenes if the material gets not appropriate for young ears. But I found a load of books to do that way also.

I have an 8 year old autistic son. I read 142 books last year.

I read at night once he’s in bed. He’s in bed at 8-9. I will read until 12 or 1am.

I’ll sometimes get other opportunities to read but the bulk of it is done then.

I’ll also listen to audiobooks while I work in the office. I have a desk job as an office manager and I’m usually alone so it beats the quiet lol.

I read whenever I can. When I smoke a cigarette (I hope quitting doesn’t ruin my reading time!) I read while I’m cooking dinner. I read in bed, or any time I find a minute. If the kids are preoccupied, I’ll snag some.

Ooh that last cigarette before bed with your book and total peace and quiet. I don’t smoke at home very often but if I do have then then that’s one of my favourite things.

On weekends its a bit harder but i manage to get at least 2 or 3 chapters in. But also life gets in the way and sometimes i touch a book and then just put it down cause i have other things i need to do. lol

Lol. Play Sims? The game? I loved it as a kid. Tried it once as an adult and realized I was cleaning a house in a game when I could/should be cleaning my own house.

1
Donna

@Sheri That is why i get most of my cleaning done before playing it. But it is also fun and relaxing to play spically if you are a gamer lol.

I just played Sims 4 the other day for the first time. I’ve had it for a while. Lol I love building the houses or buying them and furnishing them!

There’s always little snippets of time throughout even the busiest of days for reading – audio books are especially good when you are doing household chores, a friend of mine swears the sound of the spoken word helps calm her (currently teething) baby. Plus little ones growing up in a household where reading is as normal an activity eating will grow up into adults who think of reading as something you do not only for learning but for entertainment too. Dare I say it’s often the pressures kids are under at school that can put then off reading for pleasure as they begin to associate it with the stress of passing tests etc. Hopefully though they’ll return to reading once they are a bit older and can put the schoolbooks behind them. 🙂

My daughter calls me boring because all I want to do is read books, and all I ever buy is more books. I pointed out that I pay for the majority of the food in the house, asking with her swimming, gymnastics and guitar lessons, and Brownies. I could certainly buy a lot more boring books for myself if I stopped paying for all that, and that the books I’m buying at the moment are coming off gift cards my parents gave me for my birthday.

I had more time when my kids were little. I read while nursing the little babies. And then they’d start sleeping through the night and I’d read after they were in bed–usually by 8pm. I’d read while they ate, read while I walked them, and read/listen while I did errands. Now that I have bigger kids, I feel like I read a ton less! I’m not doing as much audio. I rarely sit [and of course, never to nurse! haha] so I get about 15-30min before bed, if I don’t fall asleep. I volunteer more. And I yell at them more or am just busy. Why? IDK. LOL I try to always have a book on me. Sometimes I’ll get time to read at dr appts or carlines. That’s nice. 🙂

Sadly , in my country reading as a pass time is declining , n i am reading partly because i want my kids to indulge in it… i have even put my husband to read n now he is happy he is reading…

If you’re talking about Pakistan, I’m also from there and I thoroughly enjoy reading just as my kids, my friends, their kids, and my kids’ friends enjoy it. I am a member of two book clubs here and The head of a teaching library. Reading is our world here, and I’m surprised you’re saying this. Maybe you should look for people around you who like to read and spend more time with them. There are all kinds of people everywhere around the world, you know.

0
Asma

Nashwa Jamil you are probably right but just take a look around n see how readers have decreased in our country… how many people now have libraries…

I am a working mother n a dr n i hear this mocking from not housewives but from my professional collegues

0
Asma

If you trying to portray pakistan is reading as much as it used to once.p.. i dont think so… n you know this too… we are just handful of people left…

Ps : if you think i am defaming pakistan , i didnt mention its name…

I’ve trained the kiddos to let me read while I enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and they do their own thing for about 30 mins. Then nap time (2 in school) and we’re up by 630 so they’re (not the oldest) in bed by 9. Other then that it’s just day to day.

Weve got 8 kids and have had almost 30 foster babies. My youngest child is 11 – my oldest child is 36, so I’ve been raising kids every single day for 36 years! I had to lay my books aside for the past 30 years because of all the interruptions of motherhood. But 2-1/2 years ago while on vacation, I decided I was going to read and the kids and hubby could fend for themselves. And I’ve been reading books, not magazines or newspapers, but books ever since! I’ve read about 300 books since then. I’m in my 50’s and am making up for lost time. So many great books, so little time! So don’t do what I did. Set aside time for yourself to read every day or every weekend – make it a priority. Don’t let the years slip by.

Maybe 1-2 hours a day. Usually when they have to read for 30 minutes for homework, then when I wait for them at sports practice, then at night before I fall asleep. That’s how my reading normally goes until the weekend when I can stay in bed reading until breakfast, lunch and dinner time. Lol
