198.4 times 😉 My favorite of the dystopian novels. to get your mind locked into that way he was writing you sort of have to make your body feel physically uncomfortable to get the story. It’s beyond genius for Science Fiction!
Yes, he was. His wife said the book killed him.I’m writing a similar book, just 500~1000 years after it “1984” happened, and what society is like that far into the future.
twice now, my library had a recent book discussion on it, we are doing a ‘dystopian Summer’ series, next one is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margret Atwood, the next is Lord of the Flies and the final one is Brave New world (this is one I haven’t read before)
Lucky you Julie. I wish that my library had a themed discussion. I have read each of the books that you mentioned. Are you going to read THE ROAD.? It too is an excellent dystopian novel. I found that Brave New World had lost its zing when I reread it a couple of years ago.
It was okay, but not my favorite of the classic dystopias.

I enjoyed it well enough, but I much preferred Brave New World.
Never
Twice. First time at school in 1984 (it had a huge impact on us as we were 17), I read it again last year. Loved it both times!
I did it as a book report in 6th grade. It kind of traumatized the teacher when I did the book report.
On my to read list
once
Twice
Once in high school
Estimated around 20 times. His first novel “Down and Out in Paris and London” is available on Guttenberg Project. His true story of destitution. 1933.
Another good one.
Once for school, but I bought a copy a few months ago
The last name of “Julia” is actually “Dixon”, indicating she was already married. This was expressed in one of the films.
Just twice, I think. Once in college and once maybe 20 years ago. I got much different things out of each reading.
Three or four I think.
More than I can count or remember
A few times! Gosh, I look at the world today and continually see how brilliant he is.

Ooooh I’d love to read it!
Once, pretty recently. Very enjoyable.
Only once, lol and it was last week!!!
Once was plenty for me.
Zero. I’m almost scared to read that book. Not sure why.
It’s very political and can be sexually/physically uncomfortable to some.
Considering today’s political/sociological climate I’m not surprised. It’s fiction turned fact in some parts.
I have a copy of 1984 and Animal farm in hardcover in my tbr pile ?
Once, back when I was 17.
I am reading it now, for the first time
I hope you enjoy it!
Yes, till now i am ?, thank u !
You’re welcome!
The machinery is very archaic. And the society is frightening. Very cold book.
Brave New Worlds,Martian Chronicles ,Faren 451,and 1984 at least 3 times and i am 80
I love all of those books!
I’ve read them all, but I don’t own a copy of Martian Chronicles…I’ll have to remedy that ?
Once so far. I think we’re living it.
The smartphone is the “telescreen”.
I’ve read it a few times.
Always a good read…Animal Farm too ?
Never read it …..
I’m off to see the play next weekend, really looking forward to seeing it ?
i wanted to read that one but failed ..
3 times
Interestingly this is not even close to his best work.
I have read it about four times. I think that both this and Animal Farm are brilliant.
Once was enough.
Twice so far. I get the urge every now and again for a reread but I know the ending is going to feel just that bit more awful each time I read it.
I love it, but it really doesn’t sit well for a good while afterwards.
did and loved.
Started it twice but never managed to stick with it ?
At least four times.
4 or 5 times. Also loved Animal Farm but have never read any of Orwell’s other work 🙁
The Road to Wigan Pier is excellent.
Also Burmese Days.
down and out in paris and london and homage to Catalonia are really impressive as well.
Once, a few weeks ago
At least three times
Once … and couldn’t wait to finish it … doubt I’ll ever read it again
Just the once?
Once. Voluntarily, even! Somehow it was never assigned in high school.
