I read one at a time but lately I’m considering reading a second. Currently reading a long non fiction that’s full of history and a nice fictional novel might be what I need to keep me motivated.
I’ve always stuck to one unless it was school and different classes had different things but now I’m kinda 2. Debating if I wanted to finish one and then the next or what. Kristina Nowell @Sheila@Laura
Kristina Nowell me too that’s why I’m struggling because the two books I have started I’m well into. Then there’s the third one that I started before I ordered it and I liked it and I’m just anxious to read it now lol
Lol I was thinking about this the other day. I took a short break from one fantasy series (The Black Mage series by Rachel E Carter) to read a different one (Air Awakens series by Elisa Kova) and I got super confused because in one series, the male lead’s brother is a prince who is a really nice guy, but in the other series, the male lead’s brother is a prince who is a massive dick. Plus, both of their names start with the letter B. ? So that really cemented the fact that I’m too scatterbrained to read more than one series at a time, let alone more than one book ?
Depends. If I am in love with a book, everything else gets put aside and I focus solely on that book, sometimes rereading part or all of it immediately after I finish. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen too often. Other times, usually two or three, more, if I am making myself finish a book I am not that interested in. Those I usually can’t focus on for very long at a time.
2-3. One to physically read, one on audiobook, and just this year I have started reading one chapter/section per day in non-fiction books that I don’t have to worry about losing my place (so far “It’s a Boy” which is individual stories from mom writers and “The Book of Awesome”, which is 1-2 page chapters of fun stuff).
One book at a time. I like to completely submerse myself into my book and focus on every little detail. It’s very hard for me to read more than one book and once.
I am currently reading 4 I haven’t done this since high school though. My dad used to compare me to today construction. I would start another “project” before I’d finished the one I was working on! ?
me too, I read/listen to 4 sometimes 5, I read depending on my mood and what I want to get into. Usually one out shines and I stick with it till the end and then go back and forth with the others and finish them.
Between 1 and 3 — often one is like a “candy” book – a little romance or something that isn’t for deep thought… Just a pure escape book. I don’t count those towards my yearly book count…
I count my audios in addition to my physical books on my goodreads book challenge. They take me time, and I process them the same I do reading a book. ??♀️??♀️
probably between 2 and 4. I am always listening to at least 1 audiobook at any time. 1 physical book and maybe others if I have a book club selection. (we read 100 pages a week and I can do that in one night)
Usually 2- one for myself and one to my daughter as a bedtime story. Sometimes 3, if I find something that I just want to get out of the way, or when having a read-a-thon with my family, and some graphic novels seem to make their way into the activity.
We do it at least twice per year when my daughter is part of reading contests at school. We’ll block out a full Saturday and Sunday, with a full bundle of books checked out from the library, get lots of treats, and popcorn, and go to town.
Our daughter is a good sport about it too. She’ll usually get 10 hours of reading in each Saturday and Sunday, which is crazy awesome.
My favorite part is when we get some graphic novels, like the Amulet series, Zita the Spacegirl, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, etc. My daughter and I will read them back-to-back, then discuss what we read, what we liked, what we didn’t, etc.
Usually 1 audio book, 1 Kindle and 1 paper book… But there is always one l can’t put down that wins over the other two, so l actually start reading/listening 3 books but end up with one at a time!
Three or four. Right now I’m reading The Passage by Justin Cronin, Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance, and Grace Eventually by Anne Lamott, and I’m listening to The Hundred-Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. All are great!
Wow! I feel like one of the oddballs reading only 1 at a time! I read every night before bed and can get one page in before falling asleep??. If I had more than one book going, it would take months to finish!!
I usually have three going at a time: a fiction, a non-fiction, and an art book or biology text, or something in French. Sometimes I want to be entertained, sometimes I want to learn, and sometimes I just want to see something beautiful.
A couple of non-fiction (mostly serious) and a couple of fiction (usually, one light and one heavy). I may take on more if I have a book club meeting coming up and I didn’t read the book first and recommend it to the group.
I have 3 or 4 started right now, but it’s more like I’m nibbling at stuff to see what I want to “eat.” Then, once I find it, I’ll tuck in and consume the entire thing.
I -unintentionally!- have 6 on the go right now! Too many serious NF books that I started ages ago and now find myself struggling to finish! My usual is 4, tho, if that helps? ?
2. If you’re someone who counts audio as reading- many don’t. I do, in a sense, because it still takes me time and I still have to focus (sometimes harder) on the story.
I’m always listening to an audio and reading a physical book.
Right now I am listening to The Girl in the Castle by Santa Montefiore.
I am currently reading Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley.
I’m an all or nothing kind of girl. I stick with one until it’s done before moving on to the next. Whenever I try to read multiple I always end up having a favourite and neglecting the rest anyway ?
Generally about 4 one in paperback, 2 on kindle and 1 or 2 audio so I guess 4 or 5..my friend says oh I couldn’t keep them all straight. I said well I watch more than one tv show and keep them straight
3 or 4, at most I’ve had 5 going but that was not a norm for me. I listen to an audio book with my son, then usually have one for me , then usually a fiction book and a non fiction book on the side. 🙂
Probably an average of five or six. I usually have maybe 25 library books checked out and on my shelf, from which I can easily pick another to add to the mix. I always have one or two that I’m working my way through on my Kindle. I can always suit my mood.
At least three – and I’m with Sande on the number of books checked out from the library – I have more on my kindle that I read when at the traveling or at the doctor’s office – so right now I’m counting six
5..a kindle book, an audio, a classic (War and Peace at the moment ), a light mystery, and something else… Usually historical fiction /current bestseller.
2 to 3. I usually read 2 at a time on my Kindle. I got bored easily so I alternate books to keep me interested and then an audio when I’m cleaning the house.
Simon vs the Homosapiens looks pretty good. I’m gonna try to get to that one soon because I want to see the movie too. I always have to read the book first!
2 at a time mostly!
Three. One on my Kindle, one paper book, one audio.
I tend to have 3 or 4 books (fiction & non-fiction) on the go at any given time.
3 at the moment ?
Don’t cry! I asked because I’m on one right now but there is another I started and another I want to start. All about different things
Oh sorry lol that’s my stressed face on my phone! There is so many amazing books on my tbr list, I have started to read three at a time!
I also write reviews soooo…. I have one or two for me and the other or others are for review!
Gotcha!!
Max 2. One on my ereader on the treadmill and the other is usually a “real” book
usually bounce back & forth between 2
Usually about four. One on my kindle, one on my phone and two physical ones.
usually one. unless I start reading aloud to people, then the people have to go somewhere so i go to another book so they don’t miss out.
I read one at a time but lately I’m considering reading a second. Currently reading a long non fiction that’s full of history and a nice fictional novel might be what I need to keep me motivated.
I’m closing to reading three but they are on different topics
It varies. Currently, have 3 going.
1 or 2. #1 always a novel, and when there’s a #2 it’s typically nonfiction.
from 3 to 5
One or two. Often a fiction and a nonfiction.
One
2-3
1 always
I’ve always stuck to one unless it was school and different classes had different things but now I’m kinda 2. Debating if I wanted to finish one and then the next or what. Kristina Nowell @Sheila @Laura
Actually just remembered I have a audiobook on the go too ?. I just automatically thought of my physical book!
Kristina Nowell me too that’s why I’m struggling because the two books I have started I’m well into. Then there’s the third one that I started before I ordered it and I liked it and I’m just anxious to read it now lol
I bounce between two to three. Lately I’ve been reading a classic, a fiction book, and a non-fiction or audiobook
1
Around 3-6 ? I just can’t read one at a time
That’s still good that you can keep up with all of them and have some diversity.
its horrible though! After I first one book, I have to immediately find another book to other 5 books ?
So much pressure ??
1
3
One at a time but I was reading Pride and Prejudice and stopped at page five to read a mystery and suspence one…
One at a time… Never more! ?
7
one. 🙂
2
Lol I was thinking about this the other day. I took a short break from one fantasy series (The Black Mage series by Rachel E Carter) to read a different one (Air Awakens series by Elisa Kova) and I got super confused because in one series, the male lead’s brother is a prince who is a really nice guy, but in the other series, the male lead’s brother is a prince who is a massive dick. Plus, both of their names start with the letter B. ? So that really cemented the fact that I’m too scatterbrained to read more than one series at a time, let alone more than one book ?
Lol see the my three are all different
Usually two. Print and audio.
Same here…
Depends. If the book is interesting, I usually try to finish it first. Or else I shuffle different modes of reading: paper/ebook/audiobooks.
Usually three. Sometimes four. I try and mix up the genre’s though so I won’t get confused.
Usually 1. I can do two if one is more of an informational type book, but never two novels at once. Too much to keep up with!
Depends. Anywhere between 1 and 4 including audiobooks. Usually 2
Usually have 3-4 going (1 audiobook)
I usually go for a non fiction book and a fiction at the same time 🙂
2-3, depending on if i have an audio book going too.
2-4
1-3
Usually 2 or 3
Usually two, fiction, non-fiction, sometimes a third, one or two print and one audio…
Only 1, otherwise the characters battle for dominance in my head.
I’m reading two at the moment. Usually one novel and one history/philosophy/theology book on the side.
My goodreads list of current books has been as many as 13 (too many) and as few as 2 (too few). Currently I am at 6, which is pretty manageable.
2-3… an audiobook, a physical book/e-book novel, and sometimes a self help/info type book on top of that! ?
One usually, occasionally two, but it starts to annoy me if I take too long to finish a book.
As many as want to! 😀
Lately I been having alot of work so 1 but when I have chance 2. One in physical book and the other in my kindle or e-book
One book at a time. I like to completely submerse myself into my book and focus on every little detail. It’s very hard for me to read more than one book and once.
Now….. about seven or eight books ??
2-3
1-3
1 book only.
One at a time.
Only 1
4 or 5.
Too many..
above 50
One!
3 to 5
1
one – sometimes two but not typically.
Usually 2 or 3
3-4
Only 1 but usually finish it within one or two days no matter how many pages.
I have 1 on my kindle 1, 1 on my phone and 1 on my ipod all at various stages
I usually read 3 to 4 at a time. Various formats.
I read one, but refer to so many others if I have a research project going on.
Usually a fiction and non fiction plus one on audio which is also usually NF.
2- 4 going all the time. helps me when i hit a slow spot.
1 at a time usually
2
Between 1 and 3 — often one is like a “candy” book – a little romance or something that isn’t for deep thought… Just a pure escape book. I don’t count those towards my yearly book count…
I count everything lol. Even the graphic novels.
@Stacey ?
Same here, Stacey! I don’t need to be deep in thought (although most of mine are intense nonfiction) to consider it a read book.
I count my audios in addition to my physical books on my goodreads book challenge. They take me time, and I process them the same I do reading a book. ??♀️??♀️
I do as well, Catherine! They take me just as much time, if not more, to listen as it does for me to read a book.
2-5
3 at the moment. 🙂
2, one on my Kindle and one audio on my ipod.
probably between 2 and 4.
I forgot about bedtime stories. My son and I are reading Harry Potter.
Such a good series.
A read-a-thon with your family sounds like such a great idea
We do it at least twice per year when my daughter is part of reading contests at school. We’ll block out a full Saturday and Sunday, with a full bundle of books checked out from the library, get lots of treats, and popcorn, and go to town.
Our daughter is a good sport about it too. She’ll usually get 10 hours of reading in each Saturday and Sunday, which is crazy awesome.

It has to be my favorite part of the year.
5’ish ?
Passively, many, actively, one at a time …
Usually 1 audio book, 1 Kindle and 1 paper book… But there is always one l can’t put down that wins over the other two, so l actually start reading/listening 3 books but end up with one at a time!
I’m with you. Plus, I like to focus on the one and then move on.
13-15
4-5
2-3
2 maybe 3
1 – I am a literary monogamist.
Have 3 on at the moment.
Usually just one, maybe two but it has to be fiction and non-fiction
One at a time for me.
Usually 4. Car audio, audio, nook, book.
4 at the moment
Gotcha!!
I’m a one at a timer.
8
Usually read 2, and listen to 1
2
Usually 2 or 3.
1
2 or 3
One fiction, one non-fiction, one short story or essay anthology.
I listen to one – usually nonfiction and read one
Now I’m currently reading 2
At least 2- audio and book- sometimes 3- audio, book, kindle
4
I usually have three going at a time: a fiction, a non-fiction, and an art book or biology text, or something in French. Sometimes I want to be entertained, sometimes I want to learn, and sometimes I just want to see something beautiful.
Anywhere from 1- 5 @ a time. 5 right now.
Usually 2 or 3… its like clothes one or two during the day, a special one at night in bed for a good night sleep like agatha christie ?
Yes, there’s always a “good one” for bedtime.
I fiction, 1 nonfiction, usually a book of theology or philosophy and a talking book for my commute!
At least 4. One audio, one fiction, the Bible and at least one (but usually several) fiction.
I can only handle 1 at a time!
Like 6 lol I’m really adhd sometimes
Completely understand lol
3 or 4
ONE!
Two or three. But the older I get, the harder it has become to do this! 🙂
I’ve noticed this happening to me, too. I’m a little nostalgic for my 3 books at a time days.
I agree. My ability to focus is waning and I need to stick with one fiction and one non fiction or I get a little lost.
2 or 3. One Fiction, one non-fiction, and One on my phone if neither of the first two are already there.
1
Sometimes two at a time. One easy reading for when i have a long rough day, and one more thought provoking when i can concentrate more.
One at a time but I read them like there is no tomorrow lol ??♀️
1
745034975049797 🙂
3 per 2 days
4-6
I have 8 “currently reading” on my goodreads. But i usually have about 3 in rotation depending on mood/lighting/accessible
Right now, two non-fiction & one fiction.
Usually two,-one fiction, one non-fiction
4
Anywhere from 2-5! Different moods, different books. Also nonfiction requires more concentration for me so I don’t read those if I am tired! ?
Same with me on non fiction!!!
A couple of non-fiction (mostly serious) and a couple of fiction (usually, one light and one heavy). I may take on more if I have a book club meeting coming up and I didn’t read the book first and recommend it to the group.
One.
2 or 3 at a time
1 sometimes 2
I have 3 or 4 started right now, but it’s more like I’m nibbling at stuff to see what I want to “eat.” Then, once I find it, I’ll tuck in and consume the entire thing.
I get that. I have 3. One is about food and health, another about money, and then the one I’m looking to start is a biography
2 NF + 1 Mys
2 usually – a fiction and a non-fiction
9
Usually 3; occasionally 4
I -unintentionally!- have 6 on the go right now! Too many serious NF books that I started ages ago and now find myself struggling to finish! My usual is 4, tho, if that helps? ?
2. If you’re someone who counts audio as reading- many don’t. I do, in a sense, because it still takes me time and I still have to focus (sometimes harder) on the story.
I’m always listening to an audio and reading a physical book.
Right now I am listening to The Girl in the Castle by Santa Montefiore.
I am currently reading Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley.
Me too
3-4 plus 2 audiobooks.
2 fiction/1 non-fiction
Reading 3 at the moment!!!
2 or 3…
3
About 4 to 6
One
I usually do one physical and one audio at a time.
about 15
How do you keep track lol
@Catherine easy. I kinda had to do that all through grad school with readings…so …
4 and I rip pages out too
One! About every 3 or 4 days!
One. If I read more, I sometimes get the stories crossed!!!
4ish…love this question!
Just the one so I don’t get muddled with the stories ?
2 to 3
One
1?
1-2 but if 2 then 1 is often times a reread for me
2 or 3
1
Too many. I sample like I’m at an ice cream shop. Once I like a flavor for sure, though, I’m all in, but more likely to have two flavors a scoop lol
Good way to explain it ?
2
A couple on Kindle at any given time, a paperback (that drifts around the house) and right now, that hardcover (Reincarnation Blues) is staring at me.
around 4-5 books at a time
Normally 3
Currently 3, 2 on my kindle and 1 paperback.
It depends on my mood. One audio maybe one kindle and 2 to 3 physical I jump from book to book depending on my mood
4 or 5
I’m an all or nothing kind of girl. I stick with one until it’s done before moving on to the next. Whenever I try to read multiple I always end up having a favourite and neglecting the rest anyway ?
I try to be fair to all my books and give them the attention they need. I really do ??
4 – 5 books.
2-3
I can’t do more than two.
One actual paper book, one e-book and one audiobook.
Me too!
Same
2 or 3
Generally about 4 one in paperback, 2 on kindle and 1 or 2 audio so I guess 4 or 5..my friend says oh I couldn’t keep them all straight. I said well I watch more than one tv show and keep them straight
At least 3. One audio, one electronic and one or two paper.
2-3
2-3
2-3. Always one on audio and one either in print or on Kindle. Sometimes both of the latter, especially if one is nonfiction.
One book, one audio and one to SmallChild
3 or 4, at most I’ve had 5 going but that was not a norm for me. I listen to an audio book with my son, then usually have one for me , then usually a fiction book and a non fiction book on the side. 🙂
Probably an average of five or six. I usually have maybe 25 library books checked out and on my shelf, from which I can easily pick another to add to the mix. I always have one or two that I’m working my way through on my Kindle. I can always suit my mood.
Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever done five or six unless it was summer reading or for school.
1-3 but only if one is an audio book I listen to in the car.
6 at least…I get bored easily lol
? wow!
Same lol
Just 1 I have a hard time focusing sometimes
me too
2 usually. One audio and one at home on kindle
2 to 3.
1. I get too frustrated when I try to divide my attention.
Sometimes 3….sometimes just 1.
2 to 3. I usually read 2 at a time on my Kindle. I got bored easily so I alternate books to keep me interested and then an audio when I’m cleaning the house.
3
I’m reading two or three right now
3-5 (1 audio and a mix of kindle and print), plus 2 that Im reading with the kids (1 audio and 1 print)
2 to 3. One audio in the car. One at home (Kindle or tree based book), and sometimes one on my phone at work (either audio or Kindle app)
Right now I have four on the go. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get it down to just one. It all depends on how I feel when I am ready to read.
Me too ?
3
2 at a time mostly!
just one for me
Right now, three, and one audiobook in the car.
2 right now I’m reading Simon vs the homosapien agenda and Gone by Michael Grant
Simon vs the Homosapiens looks pretty good. I’m gonna try to get to that one soon because I want to see the movie too. I always have to read the book first!
The Upside of Unrequited is also great, it mentions the characters from Simon.
I’ll check it out for sure. Thanks!!

Usually 3.
3 at the moment.
