Did she not pen 15 or so novels of a series?

If I’m really determined to read the book, I’ll make sure it’s the only book I bring with me on a long train ride. If I find staring aimlessly out the window much more entertaining, the book is not for me.

I don’t have a set amount, just whenever I feel like it’s a lost cause I quit lol. I would like to set myself a certain number of pages or something though! That could be helpful

Same. I feel so guilty and there’s this really weird feeling I get.

Same. I don’t like moving a book from my tbr shelf to my read shelf unless it’s actually been read.

I think I’ll give it a break and read something else then see if it strikes me

18 pages. = 100 – age! Not enough years to read something I am not enjoying!

I love this approach!

I don’t have a set amount of chapters or pages. But if I find myself looking for other things to do besides reading then it’s time to ditch the book.

May be up to 50 pages. It’s easier to put down in that stage. Difficultly is when you are 300 pages in and you just don’t connect to it.

I usually try to at least make it to chapter 5. If it is still not holding my attention I through in the towel.

Omg!! I was just reading this 368 page book. It was torture. I love reading and i kept finding excuses for not reading because the book was so bad. I tried I really did try. I was 176 pages away from finishing the book and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I kept look at my TBR list and finally said why am I torturing myself like this. Now I’m reading IT by Stephen King and I can’t put the book down lol lol ?

I try to read through the whole book. If it’s really tough to get through, I’ll alternate it with another book. I recently read a book that was so slow to get through, but the ending was pretty profound for me and made the entire book worthwhile in hindsight.

I’m 100 pages into Sleeping Beauties and struggling a bit. But I’m reading with my book club that I am hosting and we are all gonna discuss so I’m pushing through.

50 – 100 pages depending on the length of the book.

50 pages. Except high fantasy-that genre gets 100 pages because that’s alot of world building to weave in.

Depends if I bought the book or if I have it from the library.

Three or four pages, then if I like the writing style or the character’s situation or personality then I will give it longer. If I haven’t fallen into the book after the first chapter and am dreading reading any farther, then it goes into the “don’t bother with the rest of the book” pile.

I have a five-or-fifty rule. 5 chapters or 50 pages (whichever comes first) is the max I will give a book before I say “Nope, not working for me”. I have absolutely DNF’d before that point, but that’s my limit if I’m feeling generous or think it may have some potential. I usually know by the first or second chapter, though. Because sometimes I’m on the fence about it, and I think it’s a good premise, but I need to see how the author fleshes it out and whether I like the characters enough to keep going.

Sometimes I just go to the end.

Look up Nancy Pearl’s Rule of Fifty for giving up on reading a book.
There’s a moving scale based on age, and if you’re 100 yrs old, you get a treat!

I just can’t give up, I must finish it, hoping it will get better, plus I have to know how it ends!

Between 50/100 pages but sometimes I know in the 1st chapter

This is like a question I’d ask! 🙂 Well, this one book I made it to chapter 6, have no idea how I got to that point, I guess i got there because I really like the first book written by that author. I can go a page or 3 into a book and know it’s not for me, sometimes a chapter or sometimes chapter 4. If I find it’s too hard by chapter 6, then I definitely stop
