I read the first few and liked the history/plot but not all the romance; people kept promising they got less romance-novel-y as you go on in the series but I didn’t find that to be the case.
I just finished book #1. It took some motivation to get started on it bc it’s outside of my normal genre but I already have #2 on hold at the library. The characters and plot are so, so great.
I think it’s a time of year thing. You have too have time to read and get into the book. I would say summer reads(meh to not too much) more for a winter read type of deal.

People seem to either love it or hate it. I admit, during the first book I had a hard time getting into it. But by the second book I was hooked and have loved reading the whole series that has been published so far!
Def the best. I watched the first 3 seasons. Then I discovered the books so I started reading them. I’m in the middle of book 4 The Drums of Autumn. Will finish that before I watch season 4.
I putt the first book down half way though, it just did not catch my interest, I found the character’s flat. But for me it is like any book, only you can decide, you might just love the book, a lot of people did.
I find it so interesting that one persons book is a treasure and another persons book it’s a loser. I absolutely loved the Outlander series fell in love with the characters and the first time I heard someone say they hated the book I was so taken aback but after reading different comments on this page about this book and other books I think I understand a bit. I absolutely hated the book The Great Gatsby and some thought it was the greatest book of all time. So we are all different and unique people and what rings someone’s bell doesn’t ring for others, this is a good reminder for life in general. Let us all abide!
I have found you either LOVE them (I do ) or hate them. I personally will be very disappointed if the last book is not published before I croak. I’m 70 and waiting for book 9 but hear there is supposed to be a tenth as well.

I couldn’t read after the first 300 pages of the first book. I didn’t like it at all.

It starts off slow but it ruined all other books for me because it was so good I have never found another book like it
Sit down and start reading when you have a lot of time and make sure you get past page 100 before you decide on it

In 70 years I have read a few series. The Outlander is most certainly one of the most entertaining I have had the opportunity to enjoy.
