How does “Rules of Civility” compare to “A Gentleman in Moscow”?
Just finished “A Gentleman in Moscow”. It was so good, so well written. Some books I will skim but this one every line is worth reading. How does “Rules of Civility” compare? I find it difficult to start another book as it will be a hard act to follow.
My favorite book of the year. Just beautiful but didn’t feel as strongly about Rules of Civility.
MY FAVORITE BOOK THIS YEAR!
I loved the rules of civility….haven’t tried a gentleman in Moscow yet…
Rules of Civility was ok I read the whole thing, which says a lot. Want to read this one too.
Rules of Civility is good but not nearly as good as Gentleman.
I didn’t like Rules as well as A Gentleman, but it’s worth reading.
I really liked rules and read it after gentleman. Loved gentleman and was equally drawn in by rules.
I loved them both.
Liked them both. When you consider that Rules is a first novel and Gentleman a second one, you can see the enormous talent of this author.
Loved Rules of Civility- absolutely loved it. Tried reading Moscow – twice and do not know why so many people love it.
I’m totally with you. I keep thinking I need to try Moscow again. Loved Rules.
same…Gentleman was a 2 time try and DNF for me.
I liked Rules of Civility better than Gentleman in Moscow.
Glad to hear others think like me. ?
I really liked Rules, haven’t tried Gentleman in Moscow yet.
I didn’t like Rules… Hoping Gentleman… is better. It was chosen for our April Book Club read.
it’s totally different but very good.
I read some reviews on “Gentleman “. I was surprised some were not good. I would have not read this book if it had not been mentioned on this site. Why is there such a discrepancy between best sellers which are often over hyped and books such as this?
because they have lots of the bestsellers and want to make money? And we each like different styles of writing. Maybe it’s the difference between fast food (popular} and specific tastes (likes fennel… )
Waiting for friends to finish Gentleman so we can have a book discussion.
So pleased to hear that. I have it on order.
I just finished it and I loved it.
I loved them both. Their storylines are of course completely different but he is wonderful at developing characters I love, and his settings are as much of the story as are the people. Two of my favorites. I read Gentleman first as an audiobook – the narrator was great and it really told the story well.
