There was a lot going on and it was overwhelming at times, but I loved the series. Initially I didn’t think I would be interested in them, but I was happily surprised.
I tried so hard due to the reviews, but ended up closing the cover and never opening it again. I have no idea what in was, but that book is just not for me.
Like it’s been said, it starts a little slow, but I’m almost done with it, and it does in fact pick up. I just put the other 2 on hold this morning and will likely plow through them when I get them later this week. It’s a lot of characters, but I’m glad I read it before I watch the move.
I listened to the book and found the first few chapters overwhelming with so many characters. I would recommend listening to it as I did enjoy it once I got past the beginning. The movie was wonderful!
I gave up on it at first, then I watched the movie sand loved it, so I went BACK to the book and then I loved it. Finished the trilogy over the holiday. So much fun!
I tried to like it because everyone else seemed to, but it was just so shallow and materialistic to me. I really did enjoy parts of it, but overall I felt the way I did the time I was forced by a friend to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians. ? The vast majority of the characters were awful. No interest in seeing the movie now.
I loved it once I got into the mindset that this was pure cotton candy for my brain. And the movie was that, for my eyes. Really enjoying the second book in the series now! I read a lot of nonfiction and a lot of Serious Books and these books are such indulgences!
Listening to the third one now. Thoroughly enjoying it. Maybe it’s better when you’re listening? I really love it & sometimes laugh out loud. My hubby keeps looking at me funny. ?
I enjoyed it. I had a hard time keeping all of the names and families straight, that kept me from absolutely loving it. That kind of story shouldn’t require so much brainpower, lol!
It took me a bit to get into but I ended up really enjoying and read all three books- that said, I often put a book that others love down and come back to it later- sometimes it’s just a timing thing for me
I tried to read the book and just couldn’t get in to it. I just watched the movie a couple nights ago and LOVED it so I’m going to give the book another shot
Honestly, I didn’t really care for any of the main characters. The family all have their own agendas, and how on earth could the hero be so utterly clueless about his own family? It wasn’t really until the end that I had any respect for the 2 main characters.
Couldn’t finish it. Characters too vapid- even the main ones. Also, I was expecting a book of “social manners” as described but really only got lists of designer labels. ?
I just finished the trilogy and I enjoyed it. I like all of the luxury and designer goods. To me, it is similar to the Kardashians, but with likable characters. I like seeing the shoes, purses, houses, jewelry, cars, private planes, etc. If that type of thing didn’t interest me, I probably would not have enjoyed the books as much as I did.
It’s tough to admit this, I liked the movie better
SAME! ?
@Kate me too! Just saw it on a flight, it was much better than the book! It was better focused and the main characters were so cute together!
I never read any of them just because they didn’t seem like something I’d enjoy but they’ve gotten so many great reviews I may one day check them out.
It took me a looong time to get through it and I haven’t continued with the next 2
@Amie, same!
I loved the book
It was a slow starter for me, but once it finally grabbed me I couldn’t finish the series fast enough.
Glad I stuck through it. Tore through the next two
I attempted it but couldn’t get into. I dropped it.
Movie was great. Haven’t read book.
Didn’t sound like a story I would enjoy so I haven’t had any interest in trying it. Too many other books that sound much better to read!
@Anna haha I loved it my type of book. Lol.
It took me awhile to get used to Kevin Kwan writing style but it’s worth it…the movie was absolutely fabulous!
I think this is another that I’ll do in reverse, watch the movie and then read the book
?agree
There was a lot going on and it was overwhelming at times, but I loved the series. Initially I didn’t think I would be interested in them, but I was happily surprised.
Also, loved the movie.
Loved the movie and all 3 books.
I just finished it but I had to push through it at times. It got better the further I got into the book.
Couldn’t finish the book, loved the movie.
Ditto
I did not finish it. Will watch the movie.
Hated it! Quit early. Boycotted the movie too.
@Kate same!!!!
loved the movie, in the very beginning of the book and finding it boring
I loved it and I am looking forward to the next 2.
My mom loved the movie so much I was tempted to read it.
I loved the movie.
I tried so hard due to the reviews, but ended up closing the cover and never opening it again. I have no idea what in was, but that book is just not for me.
I couldn’t finish the book, but I loved the movie. I’ve seen it twice.
#1 was a slow start
Listening to #2 & 3 helped
I loved all three! Movie was good too…
I loved the series.
I read the first book. I don’t feel like it was a waste of time but I have no interest in watching it or reading the other books…
Really didnt like it. Could not get over how people read it in one sitting and claimed it as fluff. I thought it was depressing.
Like it’s been said, it starts a little slow, but I’m almost done with it, and it does in fact pick up. I just put the other 2 on hold this morning and will likely plow through them when I get them later this week. It’s a lot of characters, but I’m glad I read it before I watch the move.

I couldn’t get into it. I finished the first one but had no desire to read the others
Liked the movie hated the book
I thought the movie was better than the book and I almost never think that.
I tried to like it because everyone else seemed to, but it was just so shallow and materialistic to me. I really did enjoy parts of it, but overall I felt the way I did the time I was forced by a friend to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians. ? The vast majority of the characters were awful. @Andrea yes! This! It seems so shallow and materialistic.
I agree. I didn’t like it for the same reasons.
I enjoyed the story of the first book but found it about 200 pages too long.
This.
Hated the book; hated the movie.
I liked it. I did not love it, but I did like all the books in the trilogy.
I loved it once I got into the mindset that this was pure cotton candy for my brain. And the movie was that, for my eyes. Really enjoying the second book in the series now! I read a lot of nonfiction and a lot of Serious Books and these books are such indulgences!
It took a while to get all the characters straight, but I loved all of the books and the movie.
ditto
Didn’t like it at all. Heard the movie was better.
I really loved it. Like a Gossip girl vibe and all that luxury. I want to go to Singapore!
Listening to the third one now. Thoroughly enjoying it. Maybe it’s better when you’re listening? I really love it & sometimes laugh out loud. My hubby keeps looking at me funny. ?
@Nikki I laugh out loud whenever cousin Eddie swears.
@Bernice Exactly! Eddie is a hoot! Kitty Pong is a close second. ?
I listened to them as well and loved them all.
I liked 1 & 3 the best and was okay with 2.
I liked #1! It wasn’t as good as I expected, but it was fun.
Liked it not so much the second book. Loved the movie tho very different than the book.
Just saw the movie on a flight from NYC to Chicago—thought that it was fun!
I liked it but couldn’t get into the second one at all.
I absolutely adored it.
I really liked it , my daughter gave me the other two to read
I didn’t like the book or the movie
Loved it!
I loved it! Couldn’t put it down and read the next two just as quick!
I adored it!!
I enjoyed it. I had a hard time keeping all of the names and families straight, that kept me from absolutely loving it. That kind of story shouldn’t require so much brainpower, lol!
I tried to get into several times before giving up. I am sure it is great but it isn’t for me.
I couldn’t get through the book. I quit it. But I loved the movie!
I enjoyed the book and the movie!
Liked movie but didn’t love it. Book boring.
Fluff. Decided not to bother with the sequels.
I read the entire series this year and loved it. It’s definitely fluff, but there were moments when I definitely needed fluff.
I really liked although all the designer stuff left me cold.
Loved all three
Enjoyed book 1 and 2. Waiting for the third!
I liked #3 better than #2, but enjoyed them all!
I loved the first two
Working on three
Didn’t like it in audible version. Quit it after a couple chapters
The beginning is tough but it picks up and is really good! I’m on book 2 now and can’t wait to find out what happens.
Honestly, I didn’t really care for any of the main characters. The family all have their own agendas, and how on earth could the hero be so utterly clueless about his own family? It wasn’t really until the end that I had any respect for the 2 main characters.
Couldn’t finish. Read the spoilers on Goodreads and saw things weren’t going to get any better, so it went back to Audible.
Did not enjoy books 1&2. Probably won’t even read 3. Way too intricate and I couldn’t keep the characters straight. Loved the movie!
Couldn’t finish it. Characters too vapid- even the main ones. Also, I was expecting a book of “social manners” as described but really only got lists of designer labels. ?
Loved it! Book 2 was also great. Book 3 was so bad that I wondered if it was a different author.
I loved it but you have to be in right mood
Loved the movie better than the book. I NEVER say that
I just finished the trilogy and I enjoyed it.
The movie was good, I saw it twice. Didn’t read the book.
I barely finished the book but loved the movie
I only read book 1 and want to read the other 2 then see the movie.
I liked it but wanted to skim here and there when reading. Lol
I love all 3!
I couldn’t get through the book, though I liked the movie.
I thought it drug on way too long. I was so tired of reading what designer clothing they were wearing. I wasn’t going to finish it but I finally did.
