If you are reading on a Kindle, I use BookBud, Goodreads, Bargain EBook Reader to get new books to read. I also get newsletters from some of my favorite authors.

I never get anything I’m interested in on goodreads – is there like a top 10 best sellers of the week list?

0
Linda

If you register on Waterstones web site you get monthly newsletter telling about new releases and book of month etc. Not that I’m promoting Waterstones, but site is good for book info.
Also make a wish list on Amazon if books you hear about and then your home page will have recommendations.
This page is also excellent for book info.
Charity shops are good for browsing and just picking up something that you like the look of.
Hope this helps. ??

There is a top of the most read book of the week, also new releases of the month. But I also get recommendations on similar books that I’ve already read.

I use YouTube, Instagram or bookstagram as bookbloggers (such as myself) like to call it. As well as Facebook book groups, and book bloggers ?

How do you find book recommendations on Instagram?

1
Shay

@Linda Many of the bookstagrammers I follow take pictures of books they have read that they like or books that are about to come out. They usually let you know in the description what they thought about the book pictured. I bookstagram myself and let people know what books I’ve just read and such or I’ll ask for people’s opinions.

1
Linda

@Shay thanks I didn’t realise could do that on Instagram.

1
Shay

@Linda Yeah it’s pretty awesome and there are a lot of beautiful pictures they get really creative with how they incorporate books. It’s also a great place to find bookmarks of your favorite book characters! ?

1
Linda

@Shay what would I search for to start following?

1
Shay

@Linda You can search bookstagram, booknerds, bookish. Stuff like that here’s one of my pictures

Magazines. Word of mouth. My library. And honestly, I’m a tumblr user and books will show up on my dashboard sometimes that I HAVE to read. That’s how I discovered A Darker Shade of Magic and The Incarnate Trilogy! Goodreads is also great because you can search for books using a wide number of parameters (books written by anyone under 30, books about magic, funny books, etc.)!

1
Reply
RachaelQuestion author

Wait – there’s a search parameter bit on goodreads?

0
Amanda

Well.. yes. I google certain things and goodreads always comes up with a list! Not necessarily all-inclusive but it’s a great jumping off point!

I go on Amazon, and search for kindle books released in the last 30 days, after narrowing my search by type (to science fiction)…then I narrow the search by ordering it by the number of stars on review

Find a book you loved on Amazon, then scroll down to see what other people who liked the same book also bought.
You can also look on Goodreads. I get great ideas from friends!

Book hippo, you can get newsletters as often as you like to your email inbox, and can choose the genres you like. Some are free, or I think the most expensive is £2.99. They have quite a few ‘British’ books, which I personally prefer. I tend to get at least one book a day.

Can you recommend any reviewers?

1

Liza

@Rachael well I don’t actually watch reviews. I don’t watch or reads reviews before reading the book. But I watch hauls as it shows what others are buying and most YouTube’s give a little synopsis while talking about the books. I also was monthly wrap ups a lot as they show what others have read and they usually say whether they enjoyed it or not.
I like Little Book Owl, Hailey in Bookland & Books with Emily Fox most.
