I was reading a Mademoiselle magazine and they had one chapter of Interview with The Vampire. Praising the novel of this new author Anne Rice. As soon as I finished, I asked my father money to buy the book. And here it is , still have it. I was really young lol

Stumbled on her (Diana Gabaldon). Heard about the book Outlander and it sounded like something I would like. I was surprised it was published like 20 years ago

A few years ago I was hitchhiking across Australia and I was stuck at a gas station in the middle of the desert in the middle of the night freezing my ass off and drinking cups of coffee to try and warm up. I picked a random book off the shelf and by the time I’d got to page 20 I was completely hooked. It was Perdido Street Station by China Mieville … I’ve read it many times since and it’s still my all time fave book.

And then there was the time when I was at our local market and I scored a copy of Clan of the Cave Bear for 20 cents … that was a good move.

Generally I would just browse the library as a teen and young adult, choosing whatever title or cover grabbed my attention. Sometimes though I would try a writer because a writer I enjoyed spoke highly of them or a professor admired them.
