My cousin lent me all of the Grant County series by Karin Slaughter, as she said they were so good! I started with Blindsighted and never looked back ?
I started with the racing game spinoff t.v. series!!! Dick Francis wrote.. Odds Against with Sid Halley so as they came out in hard back in september (my birthday month) i collected them..since then i have so many authors i like my house is crammed with books!!
For me it was firstly watching crime drama on tv then reading The Da Vinci Code had me gripped and someone gave me a Stuart McBride book to read when I was ill and that was it I was hooked.
When I was young my mum told me never to read a crime book because they would give me nightmares, so I went straight to the library and borrowed some. Mum was very cross with me.
I saw Sleepyhead and Scaredy Cat as a joint cheapy purchase in WHSmith in Torquay, probably around 2005ish. I liked the blurb, gave them a go and the rest is history 🙂
Used to read the books my mum did as a kid, still do lol. Even before that I was a Famous Five, Secret Seven, Five Find Outers fan if they count as crime fiction lol.
My mum loves reading, when I was young she encouraged us to read books like the famous five and secret seven and it carried on from there to Stephen King x
Good question! I never used to as I thought it would give me nightmares. I got into crime drama and I think it was probably reading a Gillian White book that wasn’t crime that led me to read one of her more psychological crime books, so you could say I started off gently. Then I read Sophie Hannah and I was off. I reads tons now! And they don’t always give me nightmares ?
My mum introduced me to Secret Seven & Famous Five then I went on to Nancy Drew series, later started reading Stephen King & now I love Angela Marson, Chris Carter, James Carol & Robert Bryndza.
I started off reading horror books and read Peter James early books then carried on reading them when he started writing crime. Then read more crime books so it started from there. Xx
When I was younger I used to read the real life crime stories in the magazine that came with the News of The World every Sunday. Reading them got me hooked.
I read A Place of Execution by Val Mcdermid when I was about 12 and ever since then was hooked – especially Val’s other books and anything by Peter James
Enid Blyton pre teens, then Agatha Christie. A long gap until a few years ago, starting with a Michael Connolly book from a charity shop. Now catching up on some great writers.
Always read read them. From the Bobsey twins & Hardy boys & Nancy Drew and the Famous five through to Alexander Dumas, Murder on the Rue Morgue …. Also horror & suspense. The woe my life is, the gorier the crime I will read. And imagine my agressors being the victims.
I often wonder just how much trouble I would be in if MI5 took a good look at my web history. I would have looked even worse over the years with writing plays on child sex abuse (no, I didn’t feel the need to go onto the dark web for that!).
Oh, I don’t know. What was the first crime novel I ever read? There’s often some crossover between horror, sci-fi and crime, and I read a lot of horror and sci-fi when I was young. So I’d say that was my introduction. Or maybe I’d say it was Batman and Spider Man. I read a lot of DC and Marvel in my youth – and most of their storylines featured larger-than-life criminals. So that was it. That’s how I got into crime.
The 39 Steps and onto Agatha Christie, etc etc.
Me too. In a few weeks I will be going to the place that Agatha Christie lived by chance. My mother lives there.
My cousin lent me all of the Grant County series by Karin Slaughter, as she said they were so good! I started with Blindsighted and never looked back ?

Just reading James Carols new book ‘The Quiet Man’ brilliant read ?
I never thought about secret seven and famous five but I suppose they were sort of crime novels, so i think they would have been mine too.
@Paula thank you for the kindness and caring from you, special thanks mrs book worm, paula like you more than you,ll ever know Xxx
My dear old Mum was always reading it, so I started at quiet a young age – no wonder I had nightmares – lol
It was a ‘Friday Night’ if you know what I mean, and we’d all had a little too much to drink… Oh FICTION – sorry – lol
I’m a very bad man! 😉
I started off reading horror books and read Peter James early books then carried on reading them when he started writing crime. Then read more crime books so it started from there. Xx
I think I sort of fell into it. I started my adult reading with James Herbert, then went onto James Patterson and it went from there.
I love James Herbert. He was a great author
I just find it interesting y killers do the things they do even if fictional do that what got me going. Some great authours kept my interest going xxx
When I was younger I used to read the real life crime stories in the magazine that came with the News of The World every Sunday. Reading them got me hooked.

I am planning the perfect murder and reckon this is the best way to research ??
I often wonder just how much trouble I would be in if MI5 took a good look at my web history. I would have looked even worse over the years with writing plays on child sex abuse (no, I didn’t feel the need to go onto the dark web for that!).
Karen rose is goid
My Dad got me hooked on the Poirot tv series before getting me to read the novels
I honestly don’t know. Most of my life I’ve read Science Fiction/Fantasy. Someone must have recommended a crime novel and the rest is history.
Just remembered reading the Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators as a wee lad. My older sister bought me them.
Agatha Christie before 12
I wanted to see what Sherlock Holmes was all about
And The Hardy Boys. Can’t forget them. Grandma gave me a book for my birthday.
Nancy Drew
I started reading the Roy Grace series by Peter James. Now I find it hard to read anything else but crime true or fiction.
Agatha Christie as a child! ??
Can’t remember but 90% of what I read is crime.
Liked Agatha Christie pre-children, in later years I blame my sister @Debbie !
I’ll take the blame, happy to pass on my wisdom!!!
The Godfather poster really intrigued me as a child. When I grew I finally got a chance to read, best decision I’ve made
Moved from Famous Five to Agatha Christie on my mum’s say so!
I like anything that keeps me guessing.
Have you read any books by Reginald Hill?
No I haven’t – I’ll look him up, thank you.
Just having a look on good reads – are they what the TV show Daziel & Pascoe is based off? I used to watch it with my dad growing up.
Yeah. But the books are better than the TV show. The shows chopped the story into pieces
Enid Blyton then Agatha Christie x
The same as myself.
I started by reading true crime magazine as a teenager.
my ex girlfriend reads all the books, and since we broke up, she has got me hooked on them now Xxx lol Xxx
Agatha Christie
I only really started reading about a year
ago and tried different genres …realized the only books I actually finished were thrillers lol
Not sure really i started off reading Catherine Cookson many years ago then went though a Horror book phase. and then sort of landed here ☺
These reads lift me away from everyday stress.
