Read it but was so let down. My sister wanted the book for het birthday that year so i got het the paperback and kindle version for me. Not bothered with the movie
Tried to get into it, it defeated me. I found it gimicky. My wife had to read it for a book (wine) club, she had to read the plot summary on Wikipedia first to help get through it.
Sorry, loved it! I’m from Chicago where the els ran close enough to houses to see into rooms, people eating breakfast, arguing, doing ordinary things. I can see how one seeing the same places and people every day could speculate on those people, conjuring up a scenario. I was into this story immediately!
Read it twice and really enjoyed it. Some readers of it are opposed to it because the narrator is not likable. I disagree… When you get to know her, her irradical behaviour makes perfect sense.
Irrational, perhaps? A lot of it is unrealistic though. My brother was an alcoholic. Unusual (though I agree not impossible) for people drinking that amount to be overweight. It’s usually the reverse. It’s not whether she’s likeable or not that was the issue for me, it was all the procedural flaws. One of which was surely highlighted by the recent case of Richard Osborn-Brooks.
For a start, the ‘girl’ is actually a woman on the train. I found myself wishing that the train had been delayed, cancelled even, due to leaves on the track or something just as ridiculous. Awful book.
It was better than the film (as usual!) but I didn’t really like it, it didn’t grip me at all. I wouldn’t say it was rubbish, because it is someone’s hard work and that would be mean and disrespectful, it just wasn’t a page turner for me.
Thank you Kirsty for reminding us that for every book we read and pass judgement on there is a real human being who poured their life into it. Doesn’t mean we can or should like every book we read, but still worth remembering the author.
Totally unoriginal idea done so much better by classic films like Rear Window and Gaslight (the latter is a spoiler, if you know classic films). The ending was so far-fetched as to be risible. just IMHO, apart from the factual points of the comments 😉
Bored me gave up less than half way .
I really liked it 🙂 was definitely a you have to pay attention as it flicks between chapters but I thought it was brilliant 🙂
Scroll down and find out.
Gave up few chapters in. Too slow and boring for me?
I really liked it x

Crap
Didn’t do much for me
I couldn’t get into it… think I only managed a couple of chapters ?
Same for me
I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed it , hated the film !
I loved the book but made the mistake of watching the film 2 days later which enabled me to pull it apart as it was still fresh in my memory.
I gave up on it
Which book do you mean? The Paula Hawkins one was disappointing. The A j Waines one was superb. Unfortunately all the hype was about Paula’s book.
They have different (similar) titles. The A J Waines one is Girl on A Train, Hawkins is The Girl on The Train.
CRAP

Haven’t seen the film but the book was an enjoyable enough read. In my opinion it wasn’t worth the hype as it wasn’t a great work of fiction.
I really enjoyed it!
Read that it was different! Good though.
Disappointing.
Thought it was average.
Loved all your books Bill , are you still writing ?
Thanks Margaret. I had a 6 month break to help in my partner’s business but have started a new one.
