Abbey bookshop. Don’t go to Shakespeare unless is to see it. The books are overpriced, it is crowded and everyone knows it is not THE original ? (pss I live in Paris)

@Andie since you live here, can you recommend a place to eat? Preferably near les halles (traveling with my grandma and she doesn’t walk a whole ton). I was sad to not have an amazing meal last time I was here and I think it’s cuz I didn’t know where to go!

I was just there two weeks ago! There’s a very famous bookstore there—Shakespeare & Co. Definitely check that out. There are also booksellers that set-up stands along the river most days….. enjoy! It’s a beautiful place, perfect time of year to go. (And on a side note—you should check out the artists at Montmarte…).

Yeah I was gonna suggest Shakespeare & co, and I didn’t find the prices too overpriced, but it is really more of a cool experience than a place to buy books. Although I enjoyed it when I was there and bought a. Book I haven’t found any other places since

Other than Shakespeare and Co, there’s WHSmith at Place de la Concorde, they have a nice selection and there’s even a tearoom on the upper floor, definitely worth a stop !! And just next to WHSmith, there’s the Librairie Galignani, which is great too ☺️

I live in Paris! You should go to Shakespeare and company to see it, but definitely don’t eat at the cafe! Very over priced. I also like the abbey, and there’s also vendors all along the Seine selling super old books. Most libraries you have to pay to enter, so I always find that as a downside

@Holli so great you live here! Is there one library you think is worth the entrance fee?

@Chelsea I can’t recall the prices of them since it’s been a while for me (or if these ones even have a fee), but I adored Bibliothèque national de France! It’s in the 2e and is considered one of the most complete libraries in the world. There’s a museum and a crypt as well, which I’m sure would cost something, but the actual library I’m not positive about. Very very worth it! Bibliothèque Mazarine is much smaller and in the 6e pretty close to the Louvre.
This rec isn’t a library, but it’s gorgeous none the less. My favourite spot to do work/homework is the Starbucks at Opéra. The inside is gorgeous. Plus it’s very near the galleries of Lafayette and the opéra, which are great touristy spots as well!

I have spent many an hour in WH Smith on Rue de Rivoli. The book shop itself is nothing special but that road is my favourite road in the whole of Paris ? If you find a book you like you can cross the road to Jardin de Tuileries, sit on the grass and soak up the wonderful Parisian atmosphere ?

Definitely Shakespeare and Company, just to see it. And you won’t be able to miss the booksellers along the Seine! Oh, I love Paris. Have a great trip!
