Pop them in a plastic bag with scented candles and leave for a few days xx

Fridge Freezer for 24 hrs should do the trick.

I don’t think you’ll ever be able to totally get rid of the smell. I couldn’t from books from my mother’s house

Its not very strong but as non smoker i can smell it.the tumble dryer sheets working thanks @Joy

Your welcome my nan was a smoker and when I took books from her house when clearing it. I went through a lot of ideas to get rid of the smell. Another one to do when the majority of the smell is gone is to put a essence on kitchen towel and place that and the book in a freezer bag for 1 whole day
