@Cleo it was excellent! My first Agatha Christie novel. I requested a few more of her books at the library. My goal is to read 100 books this year, so I am trying to stick to shorter novels.

So far I have read: the Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny, Year One by Nora Roberts, and March by Geraldine Brooks. I also read Acts of the Apostles, commentary and actual text for a class. How was “Year One”?

0
Rachael

Is March good? I read one of Geraldine Brooks’ other books, Year of Wonders.

1
Patricia

@Dawna, “Year One” was different from what I expected. I honestly expected “chick lit” but it is not “chick lit”. Its kind of post-apocalyptic, dystopian, journey novel. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

1
Patricia

I never read “Year of Wonders,” so I cannot make a comparison. This is my first read by Geraldine Brooks. I, personally, like that she used a 19th Century writing style that conveyed time and place. It offered a look at the Civil War that I hadn’t really had before. And it fleshed out a character from one of my most favorite books from my youth.

1
Barbara

Exactly. It made the family more real.

We Are Never Meeting In Real Life by Samantha Irby–laugh out loud on the bus funny essays– and My Favorite Thing is Monsters by Emil Ferris. I’m not a graphic novel fan but this is absolutely gorgeous and so much text that it still reads like a novel. Such an intriguing narrative. Both fellow Chicagoans. Both friends of friends. And lots and lots of cookbooks.

I read 18 books start to finish in January. I also read pieces of numerous business books in preparation for presentations. This volume is unusual for me. I usually read about 2-3 a month. I typically read very thick books. This month I ventured into Amazon Unlimited and read books of a new genre for me that were mostly only 220-300 pages each. I have a full time job, work 2 hours most evenings, but I sit in the living room and read each evening, while my family watched tv.
