hey is a Kindle worth it, I am thinking of getting one but I am not much of an E-reader.
hey is a Kindle worth it, I am thinking of getting one but I am not much of an E-reader.
hey is a Kindle worth it, I am thinking of getting one but I am not much of an E-reader.
I got one in October and I’ve read so many more books than I normally would. A kindle is easier with my crazy busy life.
well its just I really like physical books, but it is hard to carry them around everywhere but I could never get into e-books so idk if getting a kindle will convert me of just be a waste of my time.
I tried to force myself into an ereader as a lover of physical books for the same reasons you mentioned. I think I read about four books before it got relegated to my shelf. It was really nice when I finished the first Hunger Games book and could immediately buy the next one and start reading but I never really picked it up again. It’s been sitting on my shelf for about 5 years now…
yeah see thats what i would do because i just love physical books so much and I have tried other methods of reading e-books other then a kindle and i can never stick to it, I always just end up getting the physical copy no matter how expensive.
@Beth. What E-reader do you have? Since you are not using it would you be willing to sell it to me? Just asking if so can you take a picture of it and everything. that’s goes with it? If you don’t I understand Thank You
I love physical books too. With 3 kids, sports, life, I found it difficult to lug around books and my boys love pulling bookmarks. Getting a kindle allowed me to rekindle my love of reading. I’ve been able to read more new books in the last 2 months than I have in probably 4 years.
I was the same way. I do use it though for indie authors, and authors I want to try. If I fall in love with a series I’ll buy it in paperback if I’m interested enough. Also awesome for give away sans kindle deals
yeah like it is so much cheaper but I don’t know if I will ever use it because I just like physical copies so much
I’m
The same way. I like having it though. I can read samples ETC
Supposedly retention is terrible compared to a book
Studies have been dubious on that, as it seems to be more of a learning style thing.
I got a kindle a few years ago, and honestly I didn’t read on it at all. I treated it like a tablet because I love love paper books more than ebooks. It got stolen and I got a tablet. Its just personal preference for me.
well I have an I pad and I tried the app but I sort of just never even used my i pad so that wasn’t very helpful.
Honestly. I spent the money on an iPad and just downloaded the apps for all the books I wanted.
I have an I pad, never use it though, I tried the app, before just putting the i pad down and never picking it up again and just reading physical copies.
Hmmm yea that’s tough, cause i felt like i got more bang for my buck.
I mean i prefer physical copues, but i also travel a lot, so it saves space.
i cant travel much because im only 18 and have no job so i dont need it for travel but e books are just so much cheaper.
Have you subscribed to bookbub? Check it out and it may help you with your decision.
no i haven’t, is it an international thing?
Check out http://bookbub.com/
My kindle got me back into reading but now that I’m full swing I prefer a real book
well i got back into reading because my friend forced books onto me but its just physical books are so expensive here im conflicted on what to get.
I, myself, can’t do it. I NEED the musty smell and flip of the page.
same i love just being able to hold a book and smell the pages, which may sound weird to normal people but i love it.
But the amount of free reads and great deals is awesome
…and not to be some conspiracy, dooms day, prepper guy, but REAL BOOKS need to remain in the world. Berkeley is now downloading their library. The famous college library is now a website. Who edits this? Who controls it? What happens if there is an EMP emitted from a solar storm or nuclear reaction that COMPLETLY WIPES OUT the data? It would be like the burning of the great library of Alexander all over again. Give me a book.
very true my local library doesn’t do that, I just don’t think our government will give out public libraries the funds to do that. but i can’t get into audio books or e books no matter what i do because physical is always just my go to.
There’s room for both. A fire or a flood (which is more likely to happen than an emp) can destroy a home full of books but you can redownload your ebooks. Both formats aren’t invincible.
Oooooohhh…look at the big brain on @Nuran . Touche’
If there was an EMP books would be the last thing on my mind. ?
@Jorden if you can’t stand someone disagreeing with you, then don’t post on the internet. I feel like you’re the overly sensitive soul here.
@Nuran It was a sincere compliment…you were brilliant and no doubt highly intellegent. It’s refreshing to encounter a solid rebuttal.
Michelle Napier-Schafer at first…but eventually kids will need to be taught math, History, the Constitution, the Bible, Shakespeare, and Rudyard Kipling
Why does everyone think I was being snarky and sarcastic with Nuran Cawthorne ? Who would do that? Compliments rule, insults drool Michelle Napier-Schafer
Keep me out of it all I said was that
books would not be my 1st concern after an EMP
Ya liked the comment. Oh well, y’all are wonderful. Happy holidays.
I liked what she said which was not saying you are Sarcastic and Snarky
??
I bought one and hardly use it. I still find books best for me
Same here! I have one and rarely use it. I do find it useful when I don’t pack enough books for a trip! ?
I have had my Kindle fire HD for some time & I still love it I notice I read much faster on my kindle than I did with actual books xx
I was forced to switch to eReader when I was having severe joint/muscle pain and was diagnosed with a chronic condition. I fought against it at first, saying there was no way I would enjoy reading electronically……what do you know, within three weeks I was hooked and now, three years on, even on good days (when I used to pick up a physical book), I stick to my trusty Kindle or Nook. I read so much quicker on eReader and the fact that I can highlight any strange word and get an immediate definition is a Godsend!
I love mine and like that I can get a lot of free and discounted books on it. I still prefer actual books though.
I got my first one 3 years ago and I can’t imagine my life without it now! I read a lot at night on kindle without waking my boyfriend, which is perfect. I love the weight of it. The prices are always lower on ebooks (and you can find a lot for free). I like that I can switch to any book on the go if I don’t like something or am in the mood for something different. It’s a life saver when travelling and commuting, and considering it’s about 300 gr with the cover – you never have to compromise on what books to bring. I love it all around! (And I didn’t even realize it
) I love paper books too! I mean who here doesn’t?
And kindle gives me the freedom to fill my bookshelves with books I actually loved, rather than just pretty covers or TBRs. I’ve tried reading on ipad – but the battery life is horrible, and my eyes would get tired within half an hour. Plus, it’s amazon’s baby – so give it a go and if you realize you’re not enjoying it – return it
Yes!
I loved my old kindle and my paperwhite.
I love how comfortable it is to read and I can make the fonts smaller and the front light of the paperwhite is very handy and softer than a backlight of tablets.
There are also plenty of great deals if you’re patient as publishers often drop prices of ebooks temporarily but if you use something like ereaderiq to keep track of ebook prices of the books you want it makes it easy to get the book at best prices.
Most of my ebooks are 99p, even from the big authors and publishers. Rarely do I spend more.
I love my kindle fire and I use it for reading, games and all sorts apps. It’s really wonderful. Plus lots of free books.
Love mine
I love it.
I love mine
Best Christmas gift ever. Love mine!
Yes
I think there are definitely benefits of having an e-reader, but if you don’t like ebooks then why get one? Wouldn’t you rather spend $100+ on physical books? I don’t believe in wasting money on something you won’t use.
I personally switch between ebooks and physical books, but I use the kindle app on my iPad. It’s convenient for traveling and reading on the go. It’s all based on your preference.
Yes. I’m not either, but I do love having one. Especially at night when I don’t want the light on but I still want to read.
That’s the best reason there is, I agree.
I like mine but I’m having a hard time buying books because if a tight budget. I have borrowed books electronically from the library and that is a big perk!
I just use the Kobo app on my existing electronics. Way cheaper, same outcome.
I have had a Kindle since 2011.
I was a skeptic. 1)I can manage my book hoard 2)I can connect to my library & borrow e-books I am now a believer& also still read “real”/paper books ?
I second this.. especially being able to connect and borrow from the library seamlessly.
For me, it was definitely worth it. I got a Paperwhite last month, and I love it. There is definitely a huge difference between reading on it vs reading on an app on my phone, which is way harder on the eyes. I like that I can use the backlight if I want to, and that I can access all the ebook sales (plus if you’re in the US you can get library books on it). You could always look for a used one on Craigslist or eBay or something, as well.
Yes, I love my paperwhite
I like my kindle but hardly ever use it!! There is just something so much more satisfying about holding an actual book.
I find it helpful when traveling
I think it’s worth it..especially if you do a lot of traveling it’s really convenient. And with mine I feel like I get through books alot faster. Plus if you’re a night owl it’s great for reading at night.
I feel like I read faster on a kindle too! Haha, I wonder why that is
I think it is. I prefer books but a kindle is perfect for traveling (even tho I still bring a few hard copies with me), and also if you want to borrow online from a library before you decide if a book is worth buying. Plus, if you want to read RIGHT NOW, kindle is perfect for that. And you can always order the actual book later if you want
I enjoy using the library apps on them. But, in the end I just used my ipad.
I got the Kindle app on my tablet and it’s pretty cool.
I was like that but then you get use to it, and some books are free or £1 so many bargains! But yes I do read both books and on my kindle. And if you love the story so much you can buy a physical copy ?
I tried to read paper books after my kindle… Can’t do it!
use kindle for pc for free;download FREE books to your PC+join kindle unlimited=more free books!
I just use the kindle app on my iPhone.
I have a tablet and 3/4 of the time I forget about the Kindle books I have on it ?
For me. I already have an iPad so I’ve downloaded the kindle app and use it for ereading? I don’t see a point of getting a kindle because I only have two hands to handle stuffs ?
I am not a e reading but the ladies books I am reading she writes little short e reads only to add to the book series I use the app on my phone.
I love mine. Easy to carry, read, free books. I have 1,579 books on mine. And Kindle app on phone. NEVER without a book.
Paperwhite
While i prefer actual books, I love mine. I have a Fire and a Paperwhite but prefer the paperwhite (battery lasts way longer and it’s lighter).
Well if you have an Amazon account, you can try the kindle app and get the same benefits regardless. At least I’m pretty sure that’s how that works ?
Yes that’s how it works I have prime
If you aren’t really that into it, I would suggest getting an app on your phone instead. Then you can still have the options of ebooks, especially if you are desperate for something to read, without spending money on an actual Kindle
I would say getting a tablet with the Kindle and WattPad apps is the best option you have (if you want a bigger yet portable device to read on)
I love E-books! Sometimes I miss the feel of a paperback, though.
Some authors only publish on e readers
For me it’s definitely worth it because I live in a country where all the new print books take almost years to make it to the market so it’s convenient and fast
I personally love it, especially I can never remember to bring all of my books everywhere and I have the app on my phone. It synchs with the pages on the app and the kindle and there a tons of free and discount books and series!!! Plus the app doesn’t take a lot out of my phone battery
i haven’t tried Kindle but i’m a huge fan of eBooks..its good at highlighting you favorite paragraphs instead of doing it on a physical copy of a book, its long lasting and believe me when i say..you will be reading faster in eBooks
First try reading in Kindle app, then you will discover if you like Ereader.
I got mine so I wouldn’t have to lug Bar review outlines while studying for the bar and didn’t plan on using it for other things but now I’m in love and will always have one fully loaded with a ton of reading options.
It took some time to get used to, but after playing with the brightness and page color, I love it.
Nooks are better!
Check out one from ur local library. Commit to read at least 1 book on it and then decide. I didn’t ever want a kindle. My kids got me one for my birthday. It sat in the box for 3 months because I was adamant about not reading on one. I finally took it out of the box and read a book on the kindle. I love it now.
My local library doesn’t connect to kindle because I’m in Australia and none of the library’s here have that option
Oh noooo!!
No…
I kind of resisted the whole book think. Got a kindle and didn’t use it for a very long time. Started using it with the library ebooks and fell in love. I can take it everywhere and carry thousands of books. So much easier on my arms and hands. I still read paper books, but use my kindle just as often.
I have a Nook – they are handy when you travel. I can load a dozen books on it and have it for my international flights, my stay and not have to give up luggage space for them. Get one with a back light so you can read in bed without bothering your bedmate. I still read paper books too.
Love my Kindle !!
I just want to konw if you can download books from kindle freely and how it work ?
It’s good for traveling and if you read when significant other is sleeping
I prefer regular books but kindle is good
Good for travel or if you go out to eat and you are alone…….this when I use my Kindle…..other wise I read books.
I never wanted one but my husband bought me one for my birthday a few years ago and I learned to love it. Now I can’t live without the convenience of it. And biting books for my kindle means that A. my husband has no idea how many books I buy and B. they are cheaper than buying actual books in Australia.
I have a kindle paperwhite and love it.
If you go to amazon’s kindle store (for e-books) select “best sellers” and it will show you the top 100 paid books AND top 100 free books! Can also narrow by genre. I have read so many free books this way. The sites like bookbub and others get their picks from here also which is great if you don’t want to look through all the books available. All of them work with the kindle app, you don’t HAVE to have a kindle for them. Hope that helps.
Most definitely. I have the kindle fire and I can download book from Amazon (both free books and not free books). Also have the overdrive and hoopla apps to download books from my library. I definitely got my money’s worth for my kindle.
You should ask around to your local libraries. A lot of them loan ereaders out. Then you could get a feel for one before spending a lot of money.
Love it Download quick,of you are prime member on Amazon lots of books free
I thought I wouldn’t like it, but I now love it.
If you don’t read e-book that often then I’d say not worth it. But then again I just use my iPhone and download iBook.
Books are better
If you aren’t someone who really likes reading on an ereader than it’s probably a waste of money buying a kindle.’
Sigh… I dislike the what is better discussion, because both books and ereaders are so worth it. They have their strengths and weaknesses. I have a Kindle because: 1. I always have a lot of books with me 2. I discover new authors and books when they are on sale or for free and if I like them I go and buy more 3. sometimes I have storage issues with physical books 4. I still buy books, hence the storage issues 5. lending someone my kindle book doesn’t hurt as much a. they have no choice but to return it b. it never comes back stained, dogeared or damaged, so my babies are always safe.
YES! You carry a whole library at your disposal with an e-reader. I’m a big fan of BOTH real books and my Kindle. No need to choose, really, why not say yes to both? ^_^
No, real books are better, much.
I love my Kindle, it’s the best for travel and when out of the house. You don’t mess up your books in your bag/backpack, you have a ton of reading material always with you without adding any weight or bulk, and you can read in any weather/light condition!
If you don’t want to commit to a kindle they also have a kindle app that you can download on your computer, tablet or smartphone
Great for travel. Most of the time the kids had it to play games.
Yes, especially for 1,000 page books!!
So worth it , love mine so much
Getting an ereader is really worth it if you like that style of reading. I have a kobo which I love but still read a physical book once in a while b to satisfy that need. But the ereader is way more convenient
I like my Kindle for when I want to take a lot of books with me, but I also use it to watch K-dramas, movies, and other things.
I love reading with my kindle! Easier to stick in my purse and to read in bed!
I love e reading when I travel. I don’t have a kindle but I read kindle on my iPad mini. If you have any tablet you can download the kindle app
Yes! So many books at so little cost. And you can hoard books on your kindle and no one needs to know. Shhhhh
It depends on you! <3 some people love them, some don't like them. Some end up going from being anti e-reader to an e-reader fanatic when they get one. I had one when I was in high school, one of the first kindles that came out. It was extremely useful. I like the fact that you can have hundreds of books in one single device, but at the same time I love physical books way more. It all depends on you
Yes….I have like six of them lol. They are great for the kids for trips and I read a 300 page book in like four hours so I travel mine loaded… Less to pack
plus I can get several books for the price of a new hardback. But I still love the smell of a real book and buy those regularly too.
I have one paperwhite and an HD. Great tablet for the price. At least it does what I want.
Only if you want to read in the dark or outside in the sun..
If you’re not really an eReader you will not use it inside (I do use it while travelling)
You could just get the kindle app for your phone for those times an ebook is cheaper/easier.
I just had to do this thanks to sara Shepard Lol
My eyesight prefers an ereader to reading on my phone or tablet. The light from the phone or tablet tires my eyes faster.
I get this problem too. I’ve put my font size up to maximum and turned my phone brightness to night time so it’s not as bright but a little yellower in colour. They have helped a bit.
Its the blue light and the blue light also makes its hard to sleep it confuses day or night. Super tired right now but had this talk with my kids Dr on tabs and eyes and sleep. I can probably explain better after sleep Lol
I think they are great. Esp if you are a mom. Got one bc I needed something to do during the nightly nursing sessions. Though I got an iPad that worked better for me. Problem is, reading kills the battery a lot faster (like a in day vs days with a e reader)
Plus, a lot of free books to introduce to new authors. (Again downside to iPad is I have kobo and iBooks and trying to keep them straight and the new book count down).
Plus good for traveling or bored at appointments.
