@Rich my first read through I didn’t worry about the cosmere just read each story as an individual. Stormlight are really good although it’s going to be years before it’s complete because it’s 10 books!! Mistborn is lighter reading but is awesome that’s where I started with Sanderson. I recently reread everything in order to piece together the cosmere but it’s a rabbit hole!!
do either of these. have anything to do with Way of kings? I didn’t like most born but if it’s the same mythos i may try to get through the first one again
@Michael Sanderson has written many books that whilst they work as individual stories and can be enjoyed for their own merits they also fit into a much larger picture. The large picture is generally referred to as the cosmere this is a set of planets/worlds that have commonalities. Just because you didn’t enjoy Mistborn doesn’t mean you can’t read other works. I know lots of people that read the books as individuals and don’t worry about cosmere references and Easter eggs!
I wouldn’t read past the first Stormlight book without reading some other books in the Cosmere. You can totally read The Way Of Kings without having read other Sanderson, but I would read Warbreaker before reading Words Of Radiance. I would also recommend reading the Mistborn books and Arcanum Unbounded before reading Oathbringer. Also, read The Emperor’s Soul somewhere in there; it’s short, awesome, and set in the world of Elantris.
@Seth I had no idea about the Emperors Soul. It’s set in Elantris? Are any of the same characters in it? I’m happy because I loved Elantris and would love to read more. ?
Yes, they are completely different in every way including the world 😀
@Samantha thank you. Only Sanderson book iv read is Elantris.
Yes they can totally different stories. Unless you really get into the cosmere!!
@Amanda thanks. Iv read Elantris but wasnt sure what i wanted to pick up next

@Amanda thanks. Iv got the mistborn books so might read them first then.
@Rich your call. They are both worthy of your time.
I skip Mistborn and read Stormlight Archive straight. No problem so far for me ???.
Yes. I’d recommend reading Mistborn first, myself, but there’s no chronology or continuity reasons for not going straight to Stormlight.
I would read Warbreaker though.
Yes
You can, but I would read something shorter of his to get used to his style of writing if you haven’t read any yet.
You can, but you might need to read Warbreaker before number three
Yes ?

It takes place in a different country thousands of years earlier, but it’s awesome.
Sure.
Yes.
Yes, Generally I would recommend people who dont read much complex/epic fantasy to start with mistborn, as well as young adults.
I started with stormlight and proceeded to devour the entire cosmere collection.
