I mean it’s kind of a dangerous life??? And they had to take that test or whatever. It’s been a while.

I don’t think the technically falls into your category but I just finished The Night Circus and was fantastic. It is about two magicians that are forced into a competition.
Warcross, Carnival, three dark crowns, the selection series, the testing, the Valiant, that’s all I can think of for now.
Battle Royale by Takami, Kōshun has a competition. The Maze Runner was kinda Hunger Gamesish. Oh, the Scorpio Races. It a different type of competition, it has a deadly race in it, more towards the end.
