I started with Elantris and I fell in love with Sanderson’s books. But Mistborn is a good choice as well

Don’t read elantris first, you’ll barely understand anything that’s hidden in it

Mistborn era 1 first, then tbh it doesn’t matter. Just make sure you read warbreaker before Oathbringer and don’t read Arcanum Unbounded until like mistborn era 2

I started with Elantris, but I didn’t LOVE it. Mistborn is where I would recommend.

Yeah elantris is is first published work so it’s quite a difficult read compared to his other stuff but there’s quite a bit of foreshadowing

I started with Elantris and loved it! Then I did mistborn and then Oathbringer.

Why the hell did you read Oathbringer after misborn??

That’s the 3rd book in the stormlight series

I meant the series, not the book itself.

I just finished Oathbringer, so that’s fresh on my mind.

Either mistborn or stormlight archive.

Just to be contrary I’m going to recommend that you start with Stealheart from the Reckoners series. It’s an incredible series but it’s not part of the Cosmere. (It’ll make a great series of movies when it gets picked up. And now would be the perfect time to make these films with the popularity of all the superhero films.)
Then read all the cosmere books after in nearly whatever order you want:
Elantris
Warbreaker
Mistborn series (7 books so far)
Stormlight Archive (3 books so far)
Arcanum Unbounded (collection of shorter stories)

I didn’t know about that second trilogy. I’m pumped. Thanks!

Do not read warbreaker before you read the first 2 stormlight books lmao, huge plot holes if you do

0
Aidan

Well, less plot holes, more you’ll miss huge parts of the story with massive implications to the cosmere books

John

I think you mean “do read Warbreaker before the first two Stormlight books”.
Chronologically that is the correct order and if you don’t read Warbreaker first you miss the crossover bits.

John

but definitely read Warbreaker before Stormlight Archive book 3.

0
Aidan

chronologically warbreaker is after stormlight 1 and 2, that’s why hoid is there and that’s why he comes back with breathes.

0
John

No that is not correct.

0
John

There is a character from Warbreaker who had been living on Roshar for years before the main story of the first book begins. So no, Warbreaker had to take place first. If you still don’t believe me, either go to another thread and ask about it or go back and read the books again.

0
Aidan

nope. Warbreaker is after the first stormlight and during the second.

I started at the beginning. Mistborn. I don’t love it yet, it’s okay. I’ll give it a chance.

Elantris is the beginning

Standing here, corrected, I.

No big deal. I think Mistborn is still a good place to start.

Not really his tbh. Yoy will have to read 10 or 11 books before you get to his. I have moxed feelings about wot but glad i read them all.

Matt

@Andy Yeah, I’m already in the process. I’m enjoying them. It’ll be interesting to see how the two authors are different.

I read elantris first. Well I read the WOT one’s first… But elantris was the first stand alone Brandon Sanderson book I read and I loved it. I don’t know why people say don’t read it… It’s a good book. I wish it was longer honestly. Then I read mistborn.

Elantris was good, I liked it. But I think Sanderson wrote it before he really matured as a writer. There are a lot of problems with it. The ending is sort’ve hokey. The book itself kinda drags in parts. I actually read Mistborn without realizing that it was the same author who wrote Elantris. If I had realized it, I probably would not have read it, because I didn’t think Elantris was good enough to read another book by that author. It was right on the edge.

I have the Way of Kings on hold at the library…is that an okay place to start? Sorry for hijacking…lol!

I started with Elantris (audio book) when it came out and was floored to later discover it was his first published novel. That being said, I’d vote to start with his Mistborn series or Reckoners series for a complete world experience.
