Hey all! I got dumped last night?. I need an “escape” book recommendation. Anything that will let me live in another world for a bit. Female main character is a plus. I love the fae, witches, and magic in general. No werewolves preferably. A romantic aspect maybe. Thank you!
My romance is free on all stores. The Change by Angela White. In it, women rule the world and men have been enslaved. If you like it, I’ll gift you part 2, Changeling Winds. And sorry for your pain! breakups suck.
I’m sorry ? that sucks. I’d be happy to send you a free copy of the first book in my epic fantasy series. Just pm me your email. Hugs.
Whoever dumped you is an idiot, your beautiful 🙂 lol
Ha, thanks
Kushiels dart Jacqueline carey.

What’s it called? I really enjoy fantasy comic series. Elfquest is one of my favorites.

A Court of Thrones and Roses series sounds like it has everything you are looking for. Lots of people are obsessed with it. I thought Night Circus was amazing. Good female character, a little romance, and lots and lots of world building.
Loved both. Right up my alley.
Sorry you got dumped….. you’re an attractive lady. I know that it feels like a big waste and feelings are probably hurt but pretty girls don’t say single unless they want to be. Just make sure the guy is worth your time. As far as a book…… I suggest something more aggressive and gritty. And some humor. It’s not what you described but it’s a fun read……..The First Law series. The first book is called The blade itself.
@John I am almost done with the last book in that series! I love it! Wish there were more female characters but the ones they do have are excellently written. Ferro is my absolute favorite. I hope there is a film or TV series soon. These books are some of my favorite ever.
Some of my favorites also. I absolutely love the humor. I love how you end up liking the bad guys as much as the good ones.
@Rebecca Best Served Cold has a main character heroine. I think it’s also his best book.
The bitterbynd series (Cecelia dart-Thornton)
Mercy (rebbecca Lim)
The Rowen (Anne McCarthy)
The deeds of pakssenarrion (Elizabeth Moon)
Poison study by Maria V synder
Strong female character, bits of magic and a whole new universe x
P. S you don’t need him (or her) you are amazing and don’t ever forget it xx❤️❤️
My book the Skeleton Stone.
Quick read. Fun little adventure. Nothing epic to bog down.
No female lead but the third book in the stand alone series will have one
Each book is essentially standalone
Ian Irvin view from the mirror quartet!
Daughter of the Blood by Anne bishop
Six of crows.
Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks.
Anything Robin Hobb.
@Jessica I second Six of Crows! The women in that book are so strong and capable. Inej is my spirit animal.
I just finished Uprooted by Naomi Novik and you HAVE to read it. It checks everything off your list and then some. I can’t recommend highly enough.
I loved it!!
Following. Sending you hugs! ?
The Dreamblood Duology and The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin are definitely escape books. The world building is amazing. There’s tons of magic and magical creatures or beings in both.
The Inheritance Trilogy has gods and godlings and then people who also have magic and even demons. The women main characters are badass and the romance aspects are so well done, very differently done than most books I’ve ever read.
The Dreamblood Duology is all dream and healing magic and more and set in a desert world which I found so beautiful to escape into. This Duology is pretty dark in some aspects, but also funny and inspiring. The first book centers around a character that’s a man and the second centers around a woman breaking down all kinds of barriers.
Can’t recommend them both enough!
Mistborn (Final Empire, Well of Ascension, Hero of Ages) by Brandon Sanderson. Vin is a strong female lead, light on romance, but it’s there. He gets some negative reviews for being a bit long-winded, but he can build a world with unique magic faster and more thoroughly than anyone else I’ve read.
I’ve read all of George RR Martin so I can handle long winded and still very much enjoy.
If you don’t mind YA fantasy, Daughter of Smoke and Bone is soooo good! Especially in audio form!
Enjoyed this series a bunch!
Mistborn or FableHaven
Amanda Downum – (The Necromancer Chronicles) The Drowning City, Alice Hoffman – The Museum of Extraordinary Things, but most of all Claire North – The Sudden Appearance of Hope
The night circus was a pretty cool laid back read It’s kinda young but i still enjoyed it and it’s cheap!
Loved that book!
@Colleen it was pretty good! not my usual kind of thing but i really enjoyed it
Nick Sands , wasnt my usual fare either but I thought it was creative and I loved the dark, imaginative scenery.
Caravale was kind of similar to The Night Circus.

The first book was just okay but the rest of the series is really good.
Love Sarah J Maas!
My two favourite series are Ilona Andrews – Kate Daniels series, and Seanan Maguire – October Daye aeries. Strong female leads. Bit of romance, awesome magic/fae/supernatural characters.
@Colby those 2 were exactly the ones I was thinking! Great series
Anne Bishop Black Gem series is fantastic!
Six of Crows!
@Kayla is this any good? It’s been in my wishlist for a while
it’s wonderful! And normally I feel a bit old for YA, but it’s absolutely incredibly well written, no love triangles, and the female characters especially shine. I hope there is a film one day.
its amazing! I’m starting the second one now- it’s just written so well and it’s an amazing read so read it next!!!!
I’m reading vampire girl right now, it’s got vampires, fae and such in it
Lots of fantastic suggestions everyone! Thank you so much. My TBR list just grew like crazy. You’re the best!
Ripple by Heather Dunn.
The Witches of Eileanan series by Kate Forsyth
THRONE OF GLASS!!!! if you haven’t read it then you absolutely need to. It’s got Fae, magic, witches, a female main char, no werewolves, and a good bit of romance. There are 7 books in the main arc (the last one came out last week!) and a prequel novella! Idk if anyone else recommended these yet or if you’ve read them but oh my god they’re so good. Author is Sarah J. Maas! Her other series is great too ?
It’s one of my favorite series of all time!!!
Yeah she’s a fave author of mine. ❤️
Absolutely Throne of Glass
@Shelby the last book is finally out!!!
One of the best series ?
I know!! Currently taking my time to get though it so I can savour it
I absolutely loved this!! I highly recommend it!
Everything happens for a reason and as long as you know your self worth don’t worry about that loser! Have a glass of wine enjoy your alone time with a hot bath and a good book. ???♀️
Children of Eden series!!!
A Discovery of Witches
I would reccomend The Grisha-series by Leigh Bardugo. It’s YA-fantasy but i really enjoyed it. It has romance, an interesting magic-system and a female lead. She starts of very plain, weak and insecure but develops a lot over the 3 books

Anne Bishop Black Gem lots of magic. Strong female lead. One of my go tos!!
Hahaha!!!
Sorry, I would have preferred to recommend a book, but this scene is all I could think of.
But now that it is out the way, I always highly recommend anything by Brandon Sanderson; he is my current favorite author. Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is always a good read. Especially if you are feeling bummed out. It’s quick and easy to read and also lighthearted and very entertaining. Go with his witches Discworld line of stories. Or there is always Anne McCaffrey, she has a lot of books with solid female main characters and her books are also quick easy reads.
Try tegan. Or family magic.
If you’re okay with some YA anything by Holly Black is good – especially Tithe or The Darkest Part of the Forest.
Foundryside.
More of a self help book for the psyche, however very empowering. Women who run with the wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. I found it quite cathartic XX
Arrows of the Queen Trilogy, Mercedes lackey
Knights of the Dead God by James Jakins
Shannon Mayers Rylee Adamson series, she get you where ya want to go for sure??
The Dark Sword Trilogy might be a good one. Sorry to hear…better to break up and get it over with if it wasn’t going to work in the long run.
Best Served Cold by Abercrombie.

A court of thorns and roses there are four of them !! By Sarah j Maas
