Shel Silverstein poetry books! Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic. I have such fond memories of my aunt reading these to me.
Julia’s House for Lost Creatures, Interstellar Cinderella, Princess in Black series (chapter books), and Mad Scientist Academy series (graphics).
Pinkalicious and Fancy Nancy and Bug Guy have been my daughters favorites
Diary of a Wombat by Jackie French – good for all ages and genders.
Are You My Mother ? — also, Make Way for Ducklings, The Story About Ping, Strega Nona, the Beatrice Potter books (the little ones are perfect for kid hands), and The Velveteen Rabbit to name a few.

Junie B Jones series. I would also look at Ramona Quimby books, and stories like Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree and A Story, A Story.
Five On A Treasure Island for the 6 year old – and maybe the 4 year old too. Had mine hooked at that age – and me, before them.
