Help! I’m around 50 pages in The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and it’s just not grabbing my attention. Should I go on or DNF it?

It does have a bit of a slow start, but tonally its pretty much the same throughout. Have you finished Samuel (the coward guy?) I think if you are on the fence you should continue to the next host at least but otherwise feel free to DNF. It does get faster and faster pace as the book continues.

@Natalie haven’t finished Samuel yet. I’ll keep going and try the next host though

Yeah I noticed I liked it more or less based on the host at the time. I didn’t love the book but I didn’t dislike it either. I really liked the ending too and I think it made it for me but I think I’m in the minority. 🙂

It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read, definitely give it another try

You got farther than I did before I DNFed it ?

I came close to DNFing it, and really didn’t love it once I finished it, BUT I’d say stick with it, it’s worth it in my mind, even if I didn’t love it.

It gets WAY better. The first few chapters are slow because the writing style doesn’t quite make sense. I found it got better and I couldn’t put it down.

It was just okay imo
It’s an interesting concept but that’s about all I can say

I hated it, one of my DNFs for this year.

I feel like it’s either your cup of tea or not! I didn’t like it and couldn’t finish it, but hear of SO many people who loved it!

I’m on 143 (chapter 22) and I feel like it didn’t start getting interesting until about a couple chapters ago. However if you want to jump ship, I don’t blame you. I bought into the hype too much on this

My brain definitely misinterpreted this as the The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Which is a great book and I was surprised you were struggling with it! lol

@Hannah lol no. I read that one last year and adored it

I almost DNFed it too. Chapter 2 gets much better. It was a good read after the first chapter.

Mixed responses have me in a pickle now.
I’ll persevere for a few more chapters and will probably DNF it if it still doesn’t do anything for me (and I won’t regret it since so many of you couldn’t get into it either so yayyy)
Thanks y’all ??

I feel you! I’m about 300 pages in and I’m only reading it cause everybody says it’s amazing. A little over 100 pages left ?

So I loved this one at the beginning but felt it dragged a bit by the end and got kind of confusing. I think if you are not liking it at the start than you wont like it at the end!

I finished it, but in hindsight I wish I didn’t spend the time on in. It is an average book, and the final conclusion made me so mad, I still rant about it to my bf.

I wasn’t really into it either, it’s so confusing sometimes, I’d suggest taking notes because there’s a loooot happening

I loved this book but I was also hooked from the beginning. It definitely seems to be a love it or hate it type of book though. If you don’t like it by his second day you probably won’t.

I just took this book back to the library after 40 pages. I’ll pick it up again but for now, I just couldn’t get into it.
– I’m sure it’s not you, Evelyn. It’s me.

I’m reading that right now! I love the concept and I like trying to figure out the mystery, so I keep imagining myself in Aiden’s position. I am really enjoying this book – I just hope the ending is as good as the build up.

This book was hard for me to get into, but now it’s honestly one of my favorite books ever! When you’re finished with it you understand why it starts the way it does. It didn’t make any sense to me until I got deeper into the book!

I just posted this exact question only a few days ago! I decided to keep going only because it’s hard for me to give up on books…..I’m just over halfway through and its still so-so for me.

I literally finished this book 5 minutes ago and, though I did hit a point where I considered giving up, I absolutely LOVED it! Brilliant book ?
