I’d choose Becoming. But its non-fiction. Eleanor is also a good book. It depends on your mood. Fiction or non-fiction?

Michelle — I haven’t read it yet, but I have struggled through Eleanor.

@Kimberly … I can see why, due to how the beginning forms but stick with it. And, not trying to be critical here but Reese Witherspoon’s comment on the front about “it being hilarious” is waaaaay off base. This author has written a poignant, thoughtful, caring story about what PTSD & outright cruel trauma creates in people & how their function manifests in the world. It is truly a “Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked in his shoes” book. I would encourage you to plow on …. and forget “funny.” It’s not funny.

I finished the book and by the end, I could appreciate Eleanor BUT I never loved her and it took me a really long time to even appreciate her. If I had only 1 credit, I wouldn’t want to use it on a book I had to struggle through.

Christine

I’m glad you finished. There are more of those types of people in the world than others realize.

I loved listening to Eleanor. I actually had the audio stolen so finished reading the book. I liked the accent and the wit/sarcasm comes off better hearing her talk. I plan to check the audio out again and relisten.

If it’s simply a matter of which to read first…hopefully…then Eleanor absolutely! It is a powerful book about empathy…and reading Michelle following it would be all the more meaningful I would think…..

Eleanor Oliphant! Michelle Obama is pretty much a standard bio with an awesome memorial to her father. But it didn’t really excite me much. Of course, I get tired of celebrity/political bios. After a few they are all the same. You will be able to relate more to Eleanor.

They’re both good but if it were me I’d do Eleanor because I’m more likely to re-read that one. I rarely re-read memoirs.
