I just finished it. It’s very current, very well written, a really good read. What I’m begininig to know is that when I buy a book that’s politically current, by the time that you actually begin to read the book and then finish it, all the political issues that hae

0
Carolyn

all the political issues are not current anymore. If your are obsessed with current political stuff, I think better to just watch it on TV as it unfolds. If you buy the current book, it wi be outdated in just bout 20 minutes. Of course, if you really want the background …..?????

0
Kathryn

@Lisa I’m about the same. Can’t wait. I may have to buy it. ?

I’ve avoided any discussion on this book because of the potential to be so politically charged. But I am curious… for those who have read it, how much of the book is political? Is this book about Michelle Obama, or is it about the politics during the Obamas’ terms in the White House? While I may not agree with the Obamas political convictions, I have always admired both of them for various reasons, politics aside. (I don’t discuss politics, especially not online… it tends to get too ugly. I firmly believe that we can disagree without being ugly toward each other, but I’ve found that often times others can’t. So I just refrain. But I truly am curious.)

0
Reply
Danielle

@Tricia I found that it focuses on her life and perseverance through her career. It does talk about her husband being elected, what life in the spotlight was like, and what their life in the White House was like, but it did not discuss specific political views in any way

2
Tricia

To be clear, although I’m fairly negative about M.o. book, I rarely read any political persons autobiography. Time seems to calm the storms or answer questions.

I think it showed a lot of courage how she allowed herself to be so vulnerable in sharing both the good and bad aspects to her life. This is about Michelle, nothing else. I already respected her, the book just reinforced that. She was a regular person, just like everyone else. She experienced job changes, deaths of people close to her and struggling with jobs, kids, family life at the same time trying to be supportive to her husband who was determined to work his way to the Whitehouse. They were broke, struggling to make ends meet just like most of us. Loved this book.
