James Lee Burke’s Dave Robicheaux detective series set in South Louisiana and New Orleans has kept me interested for years.
The Matthew Shardlake mysteries are great. Set in Tudor England.
anything by Philip Kerr, Henning Mankell, Burke (as above)….or The Corpse in the Koryo by James Church…..any of the Lars Kepler or Nesbo books…there are so many brilliant thriller writers out there….funny enough Waterstones in store recommendations are always good.
These authors are often to be found in Charity/ secondhand shops for about £1 to £3.50….
