I’m sure you could probably buy them all somewhere but usually I’ve seen them in little sets! There’s 8 books right now so I’ve seen boxes of the first 4 for example
Wow you’ve read them multiple times? That’s awesome! It’s been a struggle for me to get through them while in school so I’ve been slowly working on it. I just have the 8th book left!
I’m becoming a broken record as I’ve mentioned her a few times recently, but in my mind Rosemary Sutcliff is the queen of historical fiction and the most satisfying storyteller I know, rivaled only by Tolkien and sometimes CS Lewis. “The Mark of the Horse Lord” is a masterpiece of intrigue and action, while books like “The Eagle of the Ninth” and “The Lantern Bearers” add even more character depth and nuance. And then she has “Sword at Sunset,” an epic tale of King Arthur that has about as much ring of historicity as we can expect of him in addition to unique takes on the legend. Happy reading!
Homegoing is great too! By a new, young author. Followed two sisters, and their descendants from Africa during the slave trade. I’ll never get over how well written it was, even changing tone to fit each character and generation.
The Painter from Shanghai by Jennifer Cody Epstein is really good – based on the life of Pan Yuliang, a famous Chinese female artist. If you liked Memoirs of a Geisha, you’ll love this too.
The River of Time series is really good! It’s about these two sisters who somehow travle back trough time to the 14th cetnury in Italy. I promise it’s really great. It has action and ramance and the characters are great. It has five books and I’m currently on the last one.
@Nicole I know! I have never heard of the series until one day a couple years, I stumbled acrossed the first book at a christain bookstore and I bought it and fell in love with it. Nobody that I’ve ever talked to has even heard of this series so I try to tell everyone how awesome it is lol
Me too! I’ve managed to get lots of my friends to read it haha. Lisa Bergren is actually writing a new spin off series, but personally I’m not really a fan. It’s just not the same when it’s not set in Europe!
@Nicole I just found out about the spin off series a couple weeks ago. I’ve heard a lot of people weren’t really impressed with it but I’m still going to evetually read it considering it’s still technically part of the River of Time seris. I’m sure I won’t like it as much as the others tho because I’m kind of set on the She-Wolves and Luca and Marcello lol and like you said it’s not set in Europe which made it more intersting to me considering I’m from the US.
I suppose that does make a difference, I don’t have any connection to the US but I was born in Europe! I will probably eventually go back and read the rest of the spin off books when I’m in the mood, but I just wasn’t invested in the chracters. I just miss Luca too much, he’s my favourite haha
The eight by Katherine Neville. The cemetery of forgotten books by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Memoirs of a Geisha. The book thief. The kite runner. To kill a mockingbird. Gone with the wind. The Japanese lover by Isabel Allende. The house of Spirits. The man from Beijing by Mankell.
Have u girls read the burning times by Jeanne Kalogridis? This one seems to be under the radar too for some reason it took me a while to find a copy of it where I used to live.
I have read it. The fire. Is not as good as the first but it was nice to know more about what happened to the characters. The magic circle I loved it too. And then there’s one called a calculated risk which has no fantasy involved but it’s a good read too
I agree – it’s really long and it took me a while to get into it, but if you can get through the first, maybe 70 pages, it gets REALLY good after that!
Also, Prisoner of Night and Fog, I didn’t enjoy it at first, but it’s about Hitler and the nazies, and the main character is a fictional german girl who discovers the truth about Hitler, when she falls in love with a jew. If you like stories about the jews and nazies during WWII, you may like, Number the stars, it’s a really small book, but I liked it.
I love this author. And this is only a couple titles, she has more. She does a lot of historical fiction before, during, and after the Elizabeth era. Which is one of my favorite times. She also writes others time periods. ???
Not sure if it’s already been mentioned, but The Girl With the Pearl Earring…Leonard’s Swans, Far From the Maddening Crowd, The Outlander series…I could go on and on?

I’m sure you could probably buy them all somewhere but usually I’ve seen them in little sets! There’s 8 books right now so I’ve seen boxes of the first 4 for example
I love this series! I read them all multiple times. Fantastic novels.
Wow you’ve read them multiple times? That’s awesome! It’s been a struggle for me to get through them while in school so I’ve been slowly working on it. I just have the 8th book left!

I agree this is an awesome series!! And totally underrated!
@Nicole I know! I have never heard of the series until one day a couple years, I stumbled acrossed the first book at a christain bookstore and I bought it and fell in love with it. Nobody that I’ve ever talked to has even heard of this series so I try to tell everyone how awesome it is lol
