Having a debate right now about movies based off of books. Can anyone name a movie that was better than the actual book itself?

Don’t bother with the book. I’m still mad I wasted time on it. Lol!

3
JessicaQuestion author

Lol good to know! Thanks because it’s on my TBR list!

1
Hannah

Actually, you are completely right. I revoke my first comment. This film was far better than the book!

2
Kimberly

Agreed. I read the book before it became a movie. Everyone told me i would love it and to suffer through it. I did. I didn’t like it at all. But the movie was okay.

2
JessicaQuestion author

It’s so hard for me to watch a movie that I know is based off a book! But when I actually watch them, I have had to read the book first!

1
JessicaQuestion author

This is one of the few I watched the movie before I read the book.

1
Victoria

Ooh now this is interesting. I’ve read the book (meh – didn’t dislike, was ok imo) but have held off watching the film as everyone I know has said it was pants. I wanna watch it now! ?

Agree. I struggled with that book also. Was boring for me.

2

Same. It was a very difficult book to get through. To be honest I don’t think I ever even finished it.

1

1
Donna

The books are far better than the movies, Bella is more likeable in the books, or that might be because I hate the actress who plays her lol

2
Ruth

When i read the first book i imagined Edward to be more good looking..then i saw the movie..well Edward Was Just a bit off for me. Yes i get you..in the books bella closes her mouth i imagine .

@Jessica I found it more engaging. In the films the letters are so much more detailed! In the book it’s literally ‘go buy a lamp’

I loved the book. Cecilia Ahern is one of my favourite author’s.

Sophie’s Choice and The Godfather were at least as good if not better than the book. To Kill a Mockingbird, the movie was better than the book.

sadly I’ve read the books because I felt like I had finished the first and must keep reading but the 2nd and 3rd 50 shades movies were better than the books. Probably due to the lack of unnecessary talking to her inner goodness and referring to his shades of grey. The acting was still awful like the books but I enjoyed the movies more at least. Also agree Nicholas sparks movies are better than the books.

I LOVE Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium and the book (The Amazing Compendium of Edgar Magorium) is in a really fun format but the movie is so super magical! I don’t think this really qualifies though because they both came out the same year and I think the book is based on the movie?

@Victoria it’s a kids chapter book- I read it out loud at work then show the movie. The kids love it!

Every time I’ve watched a film from a book I’ve read AND Enjoyed they ruined it the acting was bloody horrible and most of the story was left out. I read only now I never watch a film made from my favourite book’s.

Breaking Dawn Part 2. I read the book a long time ago, but I don’t remember them emitting some crucial details, the battle scene has really worked for the movie. Plus the ending with both couples together. Amazing. And then when they showed final book words at the movie. Awesome.l

Faya Bokk: I have the entire Twilight series, and like the Potter series, I’ve read it again and again. I own the movies too, and have watched them several times in the past couple of years. To be honest, I’ve not found any fantasy since that I find is such fun. Most are darker or dig deeper into the filth of human nature, and they aren’t fun. Except—I did enjoy Once Upon A TIme on television. That was fun.

0
Faya

My cirrent favorite fantasy/sci-fi series is Lunar Chronicles due to how author puts a twist on classic. It’s a bit darker, but still very interesting

I think this is the classic example of a mediocre story becoming an excellent film.

And while most movies based on Stephen King’s novels don’t do him justice, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining did, in fact, outshine the novel, pun intended!
