I really struggled through the first one and struggled some through the second. I enjoyed the third one though.

Honestly, those are the first books that got me into reading everything. I’m grateful for that.. everyone has to have something to start out with and in that case it was the twilight series.

I actually liked them and I don’t care! I will shout it to the world! It’s cute, but cheesy obviously and it’s actually quite well written. It also makes a lot more sense that the films lol

It’s a good enough story for the beginner reader but if you are like a hardcore reader you might not like it too much…

the original is definitely better than the weird genderswapped! version that Meyer wrote to show that she could write strong female characters. guess what… she can’t.

Tammy

I’d strongly advise against them,
I disliked the characters, the narration, and most of the premise. Lots of cliche’s and when the author tries something original it often unravels the believably of the story.

I refuse to read it. Vampires don’t glitter. I’m good

4

Karyn

They are badass like in Interview and Queen of the Damned and Lost Boys!

2
Kurio

Normal vampires yes. Sparkly ones no. That’s like taking the vampire category and going oh they don’t need blood anymore to survive, they live off cotton candy. I love lore and how and what creatures are. Altering it like that doesn’t make me happy. So I don’t read it.

You won’t know if you like the series until you try it! Everyones preference is different. Why not give it a shot?

I enjoyed them. Keep in mind they’re YA…..not The Vampire Chronicles by any means…..but a good read.

Loved it, not my normal choice. You need to be in the mood for YA.

1

Simone

I don’t want to sound stupid, but what does YA mean

0
Tammy

@Simone YA stands for Young Adult; books for teenagers that don’t fit into the old (exceedingly boring) teen fiction/high school genre. It usually includes Fantasy and often brushes over or excludes high school issues.

They are good. Just don’t compare them to action books. They are more romance than action. Hate it when people compare twilight to hunger games

I had no intention of reading them, my niece and everyone around me was reading them. I watched the first film under protest with my niece and decided to read the books – they’re very good. Give them a go.

Yes thats true! Im
31 now was in my mid 20s when the books came out
But it is something for teenagers
But hey i think theres no age for enjoying books
She should buy the first one read it and then see if she will continue or not
Me im a huge Vampire Fan , i prefere Bram Stoker
Or poppy z brite Lost Souls but!!! This book i would not give in a young teenagers hands
It really dark …
Like every Book from her but i enjoy dark melancholic gothic style of books

1
Kelsie

I wouldn’t waste your time on it, honestly. The author is a mediocre writer at best, and the characters are flat and one dimensional. I read the first three books and by the fourth I just had to quit. I don’t ever give up on a series, but that was my one exception.

Hehe ?
Anyway, I read them when I was younger (a fact that I am ashamed of) but they’re kind of obsolete now. Very overrated.

It’s an easy read that will provide a small escape from the real world. VERY PG13 romance. Cheesy, not well written. Not something to get into if you’re looking for anything deep or adult or meaningful.

It’s not a masterpiece but an enjoyable read. Yes Bella is annoying sometimes but in some ways it’s a coming of age novel where you see her learn some self worth and the ability to fight. It’s better than some other paranormals that I have read! Although I will say that her “the host” is much better.

5
Reply
Wendy

I agree that I enjoyed The Host a lot more than the Twilight series. That doesnt mean I’m putting down Twilight, as I enjoyed it. It is just the Host is an adult book and the Twilight series is young adult. Being adult it is natural, if the writer is good and can portray both viewpoints, to enjoy the one written closer to your own viewpoint. And while the body, Melanie, is early twenties, Wanderer is many hundreds of years old and a complete adult.

I couldn’t get past the writing.

Wayyyy better fanfic. With authors that actually know what grammar, sentence structure and a good plot are.

Ehhh….. depends on what kind of female characters you are into. If you like immature, self sentenced and pinning after a guy type then you will like it, but if you like strong independent ones it will be like stabbing your eyeballs with a fork

They hold a special place in my heart because they’re what lead me to enjoy the YA paranormal genre. Definitely better than the movies. I’ve reread Twilight at least five times but I want to reread the series again sometime.

I’ve re-read Twilight 7 times…? It’s the only series that I’ve re-read a ton (or ever re-read).

0
Stephanie

I’ve reread it the most, then next would be The Hunger Games. There’s just something about Twilight though lol

0
Kayla

I agree, there is something about Twilight. I think I just love the romance in it and Edward lol. I am wanting to re-read the series again. I’ve read Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse a ton, but only read Breaking Dawn once. The movies are not that great so I wish there was a remake or something, and I think the movies gives the book series a bad reputation. I finally found another series (A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas) so now I can say I’ve only re-read 2 series.

0
Stephanie

I love the cute little parts. I would totally love for them to get remade. I haven’t reread ACOTAR and ACOMAF yet but plan to next month before ACOWAR comes out. That is definitely my favorite series now. Have you read the Throne of Glass series?

1
Kayla

Yes, I have read the TOG series. I love it, but love ACOTAR so much more.

0

Sarah

Meh. It was okay when I was younger. The last book really turned me off them though. It was 10X worse than the movie if you know the part I’m talking about…
They have some very…problematic themes (abuse, controlling relationship, pedophilia….to name a few).
The MC is a sort of a Mary Sue mirror type. I wish she had written the book from the perspective of Alice or Charlie who were much more developed characters. of course the point of Bella is so that the reader can BE that character.
Also the plot of the first L.J. smith vampire book (written 10+ years prior to twilight) is almost verbatim to the plot of the first twilight book. With much better writing, as the writing in Twilight was atrocious. I’ve always been rather amazed Smith hasn’t sued Meyers, as far as I know.
I will say that there is something strangely compelling about Twilight and I have no idea why. Like eating cheap fast food. It’s not really good, and there’s very little nutritional value…but sometimes you gotta eat that ish anyway.
Some of the fanfiction based on twilight is better than the actual books themselves.
I mean, people like what they like though. If it gets people reading, good. Just don’t ever call it good literature.
Sorry none of that really flowed…just my thoughts.

I’ve read the series so many times, but I’ve always been into the whole vampire and forbidden love thing so putting the two together was magic to me. And I connected so much with Bella. Though I was obsessed with it during all of the movie hype, the books are definitely better.

Kate Randall that was my sentiment exactly!

0

I enjoyed them. They are quick, easy reads. As typical for young adult books the characters can be silly, vain, unthinking and stubborn at the wrong times- much like actual teens. That’s why most young adult books are “coming of age” stories. It is the typical teen experience from a typical teen viewpoint. If you aren’t flexible enough to enjoy that viewpoint you won’t enjoy the books.

Edward is much funnier in the saga than in the movies…
The movies r too…pathetic (old greek meaning of the word) while the book is much better

I love Edward in the books. In the movies they make him seem like creep and very possessive. In the books he has more personality and smells nice.
