Has anyone read “We Need to Talk About Kevin?” I’m having a lot of trouble getting into it, it’s so wordy and descriptive!

It is, but oh my God is it worth it!!
@Ashley I’m on page 53 and keep stopping. It has gotten interesting but the tangents are just so annoying lol
I really struggled with that but if you stick at it it’s so so so worth it!!
@Catherine ok I’ll try! I guess I’ll have to just get through it slowly.
I loved it!
Honestly, it’s one to persevere with. It’s so worthwhile.
I’m on page 53! I’ll try to get through it. The concept is so interesting especially since I work in education
Ooooo yes, iirc there’s basically back story that is referred to later on. Not that it doesn’t make sense without it, but it puts more meaning to characters and their behaviours. It was one of those hate to love it books for me; a good from omg moments
@Jinny just the description of all the past things gets so draggy. I expected it to be all about the school shooting and the aftermath.
@Amanda it actually about the events leading up to the shooting and the “why”
Hmm, I guess because it’s technically about a lot more than what happens at school I found it useful
@Jinny I guess I just need to keep reading.
@Heather oh ok that makes sense and seems interesting
It’s slow at the beginning but it’s amazing, so worth the ride, I promise.
Such a good book! It’s difficult but so good. I read a bootleg copy I found online and the wording was off so it was like 10x more difficult lol
I definitely struggled a bit in the beginning and some of the middle, but it does pay off like everyone is saying. It destroyed me emotionally.
Not to be the naysayer, but I would just put it down. The ending still haunts me to this day.
Worth the effort but it’s a disturbing book
@Lauren I was already disturbed when Kevin told Eva he hated her ?
It gets a lot worse. There’s a movie as well but read the book first
The writing doesn’t change, but you get into the flow of it. To echo what others are saying, the payoff is devastating. It’s one of the darkest books I read and I read a lot of dark books!
The movie is horrifying
It was a dnf for me. But I’ll definitely pick it back up sometime in the future.
OMG this book stayed with me forever. Really glad I read it tho.
Such a good read but I had to consult a dictionary on more than a few occasions ? x
@Anna yes I remember thinking that on page 1,2,4,5,7… ?
@Jinny ??
DNF’ed that book. I couldn’t get past page 30.
@Cindy so glad it’s not just me!
@Amanda I’m pretty sure I also asked if I should continue and I got the same response that it was worth it but I just couldn’t do it.
@Cindy yeah there are some ok parts but it’s just so rambly!
I remember studying this for my English Lit A Level! I actually thought it was a good read, especially considering how deeply involved I became in the book!
I watched the movie – didn’t realize it was a book, too!
This book left me feeling miserable and depressed the entire way through.
I couldn’t bring myself to watch the movie
Did not finish after a few chapters in.
It is worth finishing. It just builds very slowly
I finished it, but I didn’t care for it much in the end.
I loved it. But it was a hard read. The movie is also incredible.
Thanks all, I’ll try my best to push through it. I have nothing else to do on the train anyway lol
I’m on the train now and the last thing I wanna do is read it ?
I DNFd for that reason.
Ok it’s getting better now, yay!
Ok, so I just finished it and WOW! I’m definitely glad I stuck it out. But I’m also a bit traumatized right now…..I should’ve guessed that ending but….wow! Def a good read as a school psychologist!
