It wasn’t really that good to me and I am a fan. I thought his novel Middlesex was excellent.

I just finished the book and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. It was odd to be sure and the main story was certainly no surprise. I can’t say I really enjoyed it, although I can’t say I hated it either.

Yes, read few years ago. I think the publication of this material can prompt copy cats. That disturbs me.

I really don’t think that the way this was written would inspire copycatting.

It was ok. But Middlesex is really his best book. I couldn’t put that one down.

yeah, I loved Middlesex, which is why I gave this one a chance. It sounded intriguing, but has just left me feeling kind of flat.

Karen Espenshade I also thought The Marriage Plot was good, better than The Virgin Suicides but not as good as Middlesex.

Years ago. I can’t remember many details except that all the boys in the neighborhood boys were in love with the sisters.

That was the most credible part of the whole story and the one you could most empathize with. Hold onto that – forget the rest.

And apparently I can’t type. Sorry.

@Darlena, hadn’t even noticed until you pointed it out. 😉

I couldn’t get into Middlesex, and really wanted to becauseof it being set in Detroit.

I’m DRAGGING myself through it, I should really DNF it, I just don’t get it, it’s quite boring, I think if it was written from the perspective of the girls is really enjoy it

I so agree! My whole problem with this book is that here’s this amazing story of a family tragedy … used as backdrop for the sexual awakening of the unnamed male narrators. Like why were they even there

I could relate to the remote observation of neighbors at that age.
It makes sense to me.

I have it. I almost got rid of it a few times. I’m still not sure if I want to read it because I’ve heard mixed reviews.
