Has anyone read The Immortalists? I just started a moment and I am already worried it will be quite dry. Is it?

1st half was good, went downhill after that IMO.

I felt the same way. Everybody seems to hype about it- but I thought it was just okay. 3/5 stars

@Elysia I’ve been waiting weeks to read it, but I am not in the mood for something not set in the present, I suppose.

Yeah, I just thought that the end left me hanging.

@Jessica it wasn’t the worse thing I’ve read, but I’ve read better!

I loved it. The last section was the weakest but I loved the three before

Are you just at the part where they are kids? That’s just setup and doesn’t last long at all, the book is primarily about the directions they go as adults

@Jessica I wasn’t feeling the prelude bit either but loved it when it got the main stories

I loved it! I’m definitely in the minority that the last story was my favorite.

This is definitely an opinion I haven’t heard yet! It was my least favorite but I did enjoy all the sections after the prelude bit. The first one hit me hardest. What did you think of the other three siblings’ sections?

@Angela loved the first, didn’t care for the second, meh about the third, my favorite was the last (minus the bit about her job). What made it for me (and I’m trying to keep it spoiler free) was something she asked the fortune teller at the beginning of the book and how her story came out in the end.

I can get behind this assessment. I think it felt weakest for me bc of the clinical career stuff (which I kinda feel weird for saying because I love a dedicated to her passion heroine. Alas. Nothing is 100%) BUT the other stuff was great and I was satisfied with the conclusion

I’m not going to lie, when I read what her job was, I almost dnf’d it.

What her job was didn’t trip me, just the cold, almost monotone way she lived did

Like… I get the motivation and shit. It just was hard to relate being on emotion an on my sleeve person. Which doesn’t cut it either! I have enjoyed plenty of (BIG QUOTES) “unlikable women” characters. Just that part didn’t *compel* me so much

@Jenn I agree so much, when comparing the 4 main characters i felt there was an underlying theme of quality over quantity when it comes to life and lifestyle choices. I feel like Simon definitely had the most fun!

The first two sections are good, but the later two are boring so I struggled to finish it. I think I gave it 2*

I actually really liked it. The only thing is the story sorta took a turn at a certain point but it made sense to do it

I was curious enough to finish it, but the second part dragged on a bit. Not my favorite, but not reaaaaaally bad ?
