I really enjoyed them. I read all of them and the other spin off series.

I’ve got them as well, I enjoyed the clockwork angel series, which is why I brought them.

they are really good – don’t let yourself distract by the movie and the tv-series. it’s fun to read.. I love the way they all talk with each other, the worldbuilding and how everything (the spin offs) is connected

It’s actually one of my favorites. Read them a few times.

Books 1-3 aren’t my favorite of the series, but once I got into book 4 it gets really interesting and I fell in love.

Don’t love them and don’t bother with the prequel series as their worse!

TID is so much better than the original series.

1
Hannah

@Lauren I hated TID far more than the original books, and they certainly aren’t favourites of mine. In fact, along with the Daughter Of Smoke And Bone trilogy (the last 2 books in particular) I think TID is my least favourite series out there!

I’m struggling with them
I’m on book 2 and some bits are just annoying me around Simon/clary

100%! But don’t bother with the movie or TV series as they cheapen how amazing these books are. Read the first three & then The Infernal Devices & then the last three in The Mortal Instruments. I’ve read them all twice! Enjoy!

I loved the first three. The last three were alright. I enjoyed them but didn’t rush through them.

The Infernal Devices series by Clare is much better, in my opinion.

Please note- I read this 5-6 years ago at least. TMI series wasn’t finished yet. I’m 30 now and have no desire to read them again. They’re more teen than YA.

1
Jelaina

They are well written with good plot points. It gets a bit teenage “angsty” for me at times but the wit written into the characters is hilarious and unparalleled in my opinion. Definitely worth the read!

They’re not bad. The main character is super annoying but the side characters are great.

The prequels I would say are amazing!! I liked the Original series too.

Okay so I will tell you, I have always seen varied reviews on the series, but just give it a chance.

I read the first book and wasn’t sure, but by the time I got through the 3rd or 4th book I was so in love with the series and I was already sad that there were only 6 books. Just go in with an open mind instead of the opinions of everyone else who liked or disliked it.

Plus once you finish it there are other spin off books to read!

The story ideas are interesting, but the writing is poor. Very cliche and over dramatic, super teenager-y. But if you can overlook that, they’re…good. Not great, not excellent. Just good.

I gave up after book 2. 1. They’re not THAT good and 2. I don’t think I want to support an author like Cassandra Claire

Irina

What do you mean by ‘support’?

0
Sofia

@Irina giving my money to buy her books benefits her, that what I mean by not wanting to support her (I don’t plan on buying any more books by her)

0
Harriet

@Sofia same. After I heard about the bullying and the plagiarism I gave up on the series.

Still ? my understanding is fan fiction is a fan retelling of an already established story. Theyre everywhere.

The Mortal Instruments series is great, and the Infernal Devices series (the prequel) are even better in my opinion. She also has a third series after mortal instruments (the dark artifices) that i have heard great things about. I have the first book and am about to start. Cassandra Clare is one of my favorite authors now.

I tried to read the first 2, but I couldn’t get past how many cliches there were and the whole incest storyline just really creeped me out. It may not help that I don’t like Cassandra Clare as a person either.

It’s only worth it if you’re into teenage drama out the whazoo love triangle that hardly makes sense. I thought it went too heavy on the drama and not enough on the actual plot and fantasy. Got really tired of hearing them whine.
