It was very good.
Not a five star from me though; actually preferred Veronika Prefers to Die [the other Coehlo I’ve read].

I think it’s one of those over-hyped but actually deeply personal books.
Didn’t do it for me.

I read it. It’s definatly over hyped. It is a story that gives a simple life moral in conclusion.

I LOVED Veronika Decides To Die.
I’ve only read the two of his – hope to read The Witch Of Portbello this year.
He’s most definitely very talented, though I do think over-hyped.

I got a box set of his books and although I’ve read a few these are the only 2 I can really remember so I think you’re right about over-hype

I SO agree! Everybody
Loved this book. I don’t get it. This could have been reduced to a few page fable… instead it bored me for a week. (I forced my way through it).

I say: try it. If you are so bored, skim it and if you just can’t bear it, read the plot summary. It’s a paragraph. But you might love it so try.

Well, if you read it like a fictional story book that it is (the author states very cleary it’s fiction) you are bound to get bored if at all you make it to the end. It has a simple plot of a boy who wandered the desert in search of his treasure, nothing that captivating about the story at face value.
However, Paulo Coelhos books are not meant to be mere stories, they are meant to inspire and to make you think beyond the story. I’ve read it for more than five times end to end and keep referring to some sections of it countless of times to remind myself of the lessons. It’s one of the best fictional books I have read, all his books are amazing but I know they are not for everyone. In my opinion, don’t read it until your ‘spirit’ is ready for it is not just a story to be enjoyed but life lessons to be lived. It is worth every single day it’s been on the best sellers list.
