Pillars of the earth is the first, and a tremendous stand alone novel. In fact, I read it three times before I realized it was a trilogy. Third part written quite recently, I think.

SusanQuestion author

What is it that’s so special about his books?

1
Reply
Adele

Susan Frank Noy they are well written and I enjoy the topics.. Mostly historical/political fiction which gives you excellent and deeper insight into world events.. As well as his 2 trilogy series, I particularly enjoyed The Third Twin which dealt with human cloning experiments in the US and Night over water which covered the first transatlantic flying boat.. Both very good reads… I just can’t get enough of his books ?

Terrible! One of the worst books I have ever read.

1
Reply
SusanQuestion author

@Martine why?

0
Reply
Martine

Susan, I thought the writing itself was bad, the characters terribly one-dimensional, story too boring or too rapey in places, over-explanation as if his readers are too dumb to understand what he means… I know most people adore this book but I can’t find anything postive to say about it.

1
SusanQuestion author

@Martine interesting that there r extreme response but mostly positive.

Martine

@Susan, yes, everyone likes different things, don’t they.

I read it over a 3 month period. Just read it at night before bed. It is a saga and not a quick read but I felt it was worth the time and will read the 2nd in the trilogy this year. Also it took about 100 pages to get hooked.
