It’s wonderful. I don’t do a lot of memoirs, especially by political figures, but this one was 5 stars. I listened on Audible, narrated by Michelle. She has a fascinating life story, and you learn a lot of interesting things about the White House. Highly recommend.

@Shannon I love listening to things and doing stuff around the house. Mostly it’s just podcasts though.

1
Shannon

@Lillie I also enjoy podcasts. I recently finish sold in America, about the sex trade in the US. I also really enjoyed Serial, it is one story told over many weeks and Harry Potter and the sacred text. What do you listen to?

1
Lillie

@Shannon I’m really into Risk! And The Moth which are both live storytelling Podcasts about true stories. Risk! Is very not suitable for children it’s basically stories you take a risk to tell. Sold in America sounds really interesting! And heartbreaking.

Does anyone like it that doesn’t particularly love her? I voted for her husband twice but I never just loved her. She made school lunches terrible – I think I’m not over that. I’m interested in her book.

1
Reply
Ronda

I liked her but not like some people. This book made me respect and admire her much more. She talks a lot about her food initiatives in the book, it’s very interesting and a lot I wasn’t aware of.

5
Janet

Healthy school lunches were all we had when I was in grade school back in the early part of the last century…like 1942 to 1950. Those healthy lunches and Mom’s healthy meals gave me a healthy life even today. Consider yourself lucky if you have something other than potato chips for lunch.

3
Beth

@Janet be glad you don’t have to eat what they serve these days. It’s not all that healthy except that there’s no salt, no spices, and no sugar. They serve vats of spaghetti like this. It’s bad.
I had relatively healthy school lunches too. We also played outside a lot so no one had to bland out the menu at school.

1
Janet

It’s true that people don’t know the taste of good food anymore. It is so overly salty and processed that without all the salt, they don’t enjoy the food.

0
Beth

@Janet what I tried was bad – and I appreciate organic, more veggies than meat meals.

0
Ronda

@Beth I don’t know what the exact standards of her lunches were, but maybe some schools just did a lacking job of finding tasty, nutrious foods to serve. I wouldn’t let it put you off the book. It was interesting just from the perspective of hearing about her upbringing and life in the White House. I don’t usually love memoirs but this one was great.

2
Beth

@Ronda that’s what I’m thinking. She is a lovely woman who kept her family “ real” under unreal (I mean, how many moms have to raise kids in the White House under he eyes of the world?)circumstances. I will read her book. Thank you for understanding.

Jake

Any male republicans enjoy it?

3

Lexie

@Denna I think politics aside some of these people are very interesting figures. I read Eunice Kennedy’s biography and it was brilliant. Did you know she founded the special olympics and why? I didn’t until I read her book! Open your mind!

3
Jake

@Lexie I agree, that’s the purpose of my question…

1

Haven’t read it but I don’t usually read autobiographies. However, I’m going to do a reading challenge next year and part of the challenge is to read something I wouldn’t normally read. So I might read her book for that part of the challenge ?

Rosa

I don’t care for autobiographies much, either. Michelle had me totally captivated.

2
Steph

@Rosa I think she is a very interesting person so would like to learn more about her. The last autobiography I read was Kurt Cobain. It was heartbreaking.

1
Nancy

@Steph I read some memoirs, those who may have had an interesting life

2
Steph

@Nancy can you recommend any autobiographies ?

1
Nancy

@Steph can’t think of one off the top of my head. Senior moment

2

@Nancy thanks. I will have a look at those. Next year I plan to read a few books that I wouldn’t normally read.

Stopping reading the comments, it was a fair question, but some of the people commenting are clearly baiting. Big deal, you don’t want to read it, don’t read it. This post is asking for reviews, not stupid comments.

Never been into politics but this is one I want to read. Just an account of the lady next to the president sounds interesting. I bet thats a job role in itself! It looks like an empowering female dominating book but might be worth it. Obviously its been edited loads for dramatic purposes..??
