Yep. It is a wonderful book. Neil Gaiman always likes to dip into old myths and stories for his novels and this one is the best example of him doing so. Even if you don’t know all the names of the old gods mentiones in “American Gods”, you still get what they are about. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them in a modern setting. You’d think that someone mashing so many cultures and believes into one story would lose the thread and end up with a confusing mess, but it really is a very fun and easy read that just grabs you from the very beginning. Every character, no matter how small their part, is interesting and full. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Yes. It’s amazing. Now go buy everything else he’s every breathed on. Seriously. He’s the best.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane is my favourite by him. But Stardust is also great.
Praise be to our literary lord and savour, Neil Gaiman.

His shine was severely, irreparably tarnished after what he did to “Doctor Who” and the Cybermen.

Jake

@Peter Funnily enough, I don’t like Dr. Who. So that’s the one aspect of Neil Gaiman I don’t care about.

Peter

… you do realise there’s a hole in your logic there, right?

“Now go buy everything else he’s ever breathed on. Seriously. He’s the best”.

You should be watching his two episodes now, shouldn’t you?

0
Jake

@Peter I should. However, just because I haven’t, doesn’t mean everyone else shouldn’t. They should. 🙂
It’s not flawed logic, it’s selectivism.

Yes, I liked it. I can’t put my finger on why I didn’t love it though, there was just something missing.

I would say it’s definitely not his easiest book to read though… other ones I’ve also loved but are much easier reading are, Anansi boys, Neverwhere and The Ocean at the end of the lane 🙂

I’ve read people say that on here before, that they found it hard to read. Could you please tell me what it was that you found difficult?

0
Hayley

Oh i loved it but I know others have found it difficult… these are just other books I’ve loved that are much easier to read.

Lorena

But what did you find hard to read? I am honestly confused that so many people feel this way and I would like to understand why.

Hayley

I didn’t find it hard personally, it’s just I’ve seen so many people say they found it hard reading, especially in the September book club, so I’m just kind of taking that into account really.

Lorena

Oh, ok. Thanks for answering.

Go research all the Gods he mentions. You’ll be so inspired by his artistry in using these ancient stories.
