I really liked it.
Tried twice to read it on my kindle and could not get into it. Was given a paperback version and that was it. Loved it. Do peservere.
Wonderful book. In my all time top ten
Worth persevering. Took several goes but then it was great
I listened on audio. I thought it was so dull. Couldn’t believe it after so many rave reviews. Felt like I’d wasted my time.
Loved it but have to say I didn’t get into it easily ..: persevere
I loved it – one of my favourite books
Very good book…stay with it!
Hated it.
Glad it’s not just me!
Me too!!!
I loved it! I don’t remember having trouble getting into it
I thought it was great!
Loved it but not everyone I know did
I heard it’s great
I really liked it.
I liked it, didn’t love it
Thank you all so much. I will try again.
Hated it too!! If you’re in the minority (like me) who doesn’t like this book it will not get any better. It took me over two months to finish it and the end wasn’t worth it in my opinion.
I loved it! Seem to remember it being a little slow to start but it’s definitely worth it x
Am so glad I’m not alone! Tried and tried to like it, but gave up in the end.
I loved it Debra x
I remember, @Madelaine. It’s because of you that I persevered (to no avail!)x
Loved it.
Took me a little bit to get into it but then I loved it.
I really enjoyed that book.
Also loved it
I so loved that book-Loved the father making a small version of the neighborhood so she can navagiate it blind.
The research that went into this book’s writing is just phenomenal. I especially like the chapters of the story that deal with the German characters, and also the destruction of St. Malo a little told story but one that had been told to me in senior school by my Breton French teacher. ??
I didn’t like it but I know people who loved it!
Just finished it loved it x
It took a while. It was good!
Amazing book! Just loved it!!
I couldn’t get through it either.
Nor me
I enjoyed it but didn’t get into it right away.
Excellent
Never heard so many contradictory comments over one book. Some people lived it and some hated it. I have been struggling to get into it, after hearing some of these comments, I think I’m going to leave it!!
To be honest I would leave it! I can usually get through a book in two/three days ( well used to be able to – now I’ve got a baby!) but that book took me a month!!
I found it enjoyable enough, but extremely over-hyped. There’s a zillion better books out there!
I always say, life is too short to read books you don’t enjoy. Personally, I’d leave it and find a real page turner.
Thank you all so much
i really couldn’t get into it
My best book, ever!!
Just started it. Liking it so far
@Helene I’m having the same problem with The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks. Its a kind of mix between a biography of a very interesting medically based situation but eventually leads to debates and speculations of the ethical implications. The beginning was easy to get into but in the middle it starts dragging out and I’m not sure whether to just leave it. Has anyone here read it?
I agree! I didn’t finish the book. The biographical and ethical parts were interesting but the science weighed me down.
Ditto the above.
Agree also! The middle of the book lost the terrific, initial momentum….
@Debra did u finish it?
Took me ages to read. Can’t say I loved it but had to finish it!
I gave up on it.Seemed to drag on and on

Keep going, I gave up but went back to it. So pleased I did, I became fully absorbed in the characters. Such a heart felt story.
I enjoyed narrative and style of writing
Gave up.
The best book I”ve read
It’s so good keep trying ?
It’s a great read
Not one for giving up on books but only lasted to about half way!
We did read it for book club and it was like marmite, loved or not loved!
Everyone raves about it so I bought it and found it dry and boring.
Loved it!
Not all books are for everyone
Read it…get the kleenex ready
No but me too? heard lots of positive things about it ?
Yes and loved it!
Not my cup of tea at all
I didn’t enjoy it as much as the fans, gave it 3 stars, but it is mentioned quite a bit, so it’s worth giving it a go if you’ve got a copy, so you can join the convo. You might be one of the fans 🙂
I’m struggling with it. 80% in, but God it’s dragging. I might pick it up again before the year is out, just to count to my “Goodreads” total ?
